I've got some of those large red ants in the back yard that I want gone. These aren't the smaller fire ants, but the larger 1/4" long bastards. These things bite and w/ the dog in the back yard, I don't want him getting into the nest.

I put some of the Andro fire ant killer out by the entrance, but it didn't look like they were taking the bait into the nest. Suggestions? Have company coming over Sunday and I'd like to have these gone....

I have had good luck with the standard ant stuff (Ortho?) that you buy at Home Depot/Lowes. If I remember correctly it was granules that you sprinkle in your yard. I can't remember how long it took to kill them. I think I only had to do a single application. In my situation I was dealing with what I think was fire ants. Its been a few years ago.

You can't stop fire ants, you can only move them to the neighbors yard.

The Andro does a great job of killing fire ants. These are big bully cousins. These don't build out the mound like the fire ants...

Infuse vegetable oil with eucalyptus and spray it all over. Works on most species.

My neighbor lent me this stuff called surrender. I'll take a pic and show you the container at the event this weekend. In 24 hrs it killed two massive ant hills. My ant problems seem to be less at this point.

It sorta kills them. I think it mostly just moves them out of the area. I apply this stuff eight to ten times a year at least.
