I'm sick and tired of buying these crap 40w microwave bulbs from Lowes. Almost 5 bucks a pop and they last 3-4 months and when I have to replace them the glass usually separates from the base. Arrgghhh, I've had enough.... I've looked on line, but I can't find a decent LED replacement blub. I need something that looks like this....

You guys know of any place local or on line that sells a LED version of this bulb? This has the intermediate base. Let me know please....

I've had a microwave for 20 years and have never had to replace the bulb. Sounds like your problem may not be the bulb itself.

Ditto... I have never replaced a microwave bulb. I suspect something else is going on and trying to find an LED solution is not going to solve the problem.

short of replacing the microwave, I've done nothing to this microwave, so there's not much I can do there. I still want to find a LED replacement blub, so if you know of any place I can buy one, let me know...

I am guessing Rodney isn't talking about the bulb internal to the microwave, but more likely the bulbs that are lighting for the stove in a over the stove type unit. If you use them a lot, like as a night light overnight in the kitchen, they will burn out pretty fast. - AB

Sorry, yes, the over the stove bulbs. Should have clarified....

Can you get a CFL more easily? Just make sure Mercury does not 'season' your food when it dies.

I've looked but haven't found. It's such a narrow bulb, not much wider than that small base. I'll have to look in the housing to see how much room I have. I did find one website where the guy took just the base of the bulb, ran it though a converter and wired it up to an LED. It was sketchy at best, but seemed to work.... Not ready to go that route yet.

You will have to figure out the code for the base form factor so you can search more easily. I know there are adapter for candelabra to standard bulbs, so something like that might be what you need assuming you can get a different bulb to fit in there. I use CFL's in ours, but it's standard.

I had a similar experience with a vaulted ceiling night light in our bathroom. It's a PITA to change, so I ended up paying $10 for a LED bulb so I would never have to change it again.

Rodney -

I assume you've verified the bulbs are actually burning out versus a poor connection. Sometimes if the lamp socket center contact has been pushed too far down bulbs will arc (you can usually hear the arcing if the room is very quiet and may see flickering). Scrape the contact clean and then carefully bend the contact up a little. Circuit breaker off of course.

Have you tried different brand bulbs? Maybe "pay me now or pay me later" applies.

Is there a fan that is causing the bulb to vibrate a lot? If so, see if any of the bulbs that fit mention "fan use" and/or see if you can tame the vibration. There are fan bulbs but I don't know if they are made in the form factor you need.

If any of the available bulbs claim "double life" or similar the lumens/watt may be slightly lower but the filament may be stronger.

Try a lower wattage if all else fails. The filament may be stronger.

Also, do other bulbs in your house burn out relatively rapidly? You might get a voltmeter and check the voltage at nearby receptacles. Normally home voltage is around 120 vac. Significantly higher tends to shorten bulb life but you would normally see (pun intended) this with other incandescent bulbs in the house.
