Teenage daughter had a disagreement with the garage door a few days ago. Garage door needed to be replaced anyhow, so it looks like I will be doing a new high lift setup this spring. However the scratches on the front bumper of my wife's relatively new Honda Fit is NOT going to buff out. It will need to be painted at a minimum.

This is going to be an out of pocket project. I know that staff changes at various body shops, so who might be good one year may not be the next. Anyone have any recent experiences and recommendations they would share with me? Looking for something in the Triangle area.

Thanks,

Richard

2-3 years ago(not sure if that fits "recent") I had to have the driver's fender replaced and painted on the WRX after an ice escapade with a mailbox, also out of pocket. Did NOT have a good result from Foster's in N Raleigh, suggest looking elsewhere.

Sorry it's not a  recommendation, but might still be helpful. Good luck!

I am also about to have some paint work done. There is another thread on here where someone recommended performance auto mall in chapel hill and that is where I am planning to go.

Its been a few years but Capital Ford's body shop did a great paint job on the rear bumper and nearby areas on our laser red (metallic) 97 Mustang. Still looks good but the car lives in a garage so life isn't "too tough" on the paint.

Call your insurance company and see who they recommend since that may give some degree of confidence.

It may be a bit out of the way for you, but I've had very good luck dealing w/ Estes body shop on hiway 50. It's sorta southeast of Garner. I've taken about 4 cars there over the years and the end result is always good. I usually have to take the car back but they've never balked at a follow up once I show them the issue. Case in point was having the front bumper repaired on the mustang. When I first got it back, there wasn't enough "sparkle" in the paint, looked flat. When I took it back and showed them they agreed and resprayed the bumper.

I think I'd have to say their strong suit is customer follow up.

That was me. Both of my Honda's and the WRX had some paint work done there and their color matching, blending, and clear coat was excellent (and the Accord and WRX were metallic paints).

Only 1 of those 3 cars do I still have and the paint work is holding up quite well after 3.5 years (and the Accord is probably the least maintained from a paint/washing/wax perspective).

However, as Karl can attest, I wouldn't take any car to Performance for work unless Aaron Delong is the only one touching it (ie Chevy).

So I took my new fiberglass hardtop to performance automall and they said it would take a lot of sanding to knock the waviness in the surface down and that it would be about a grand to paint. Ultimately I don't care if the surface has some slight waviness to it but they don't want to do any work that isn't 100% perfect.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, has anyone had any good or bad experiences with local Maacos? My understanding is that they can vary hugely from location to location.

i got hit in the wrx last week or two ago.triangle collision center says they cnat start on it, till next month. Its already been two weeks, anyone say they got another place that can do it quicker. like maybe turbotime or someone, it needs some bodywork and suspension pieces.the rear quarter is bent some, door rear side is toast. and suspension could be better, my fault. but oh well, that is life. anyhow, anyone know of anyone. my car has been out for two weeks already. and have nothing done until 3 or 4 of next month. may not make sandblast. which is not acceptable. i may just beat hte fender, paint it rattlecan.
replace the rear suspensoin my self. and hang a junkyard door.

I can now say that you get what you pay for at the maaco in durham. The color matching is dead on but there are some paint issues that I am not sure will be resolved with polishing. It was cheap so there is that.

I'm looking for a body shop recommendation. The work is for a brand new car, and is on someone else's dime. I'd like the car to be as close to perfect as possible, so any recommendations for a shop that can pull that off?

When I went into performance automall and talked to them it sounded like they really know what they are doing. If you aren't paying I would go there.
