windows folder compare

I need some help please. I've got a couple of win7 folders I need to compare, namely with my external drive and my local drive. I don't want to trash the external files, so I'm looking for a folder/file compare utility. I've found a few freebies on the internet, but they do bastard things like load bing and other crap tools on the browser. Any advice? I'd appreciate some help please...

dammit!!!!! one of these "free" file compare programs has installed this crap "sweetpack" applications for IE and firefox. I've deleted everything I can see to delete and I'm almost to the point of going thru the registry. Before I do that, I need a recommendation on a GOOD malware/spyware/crapware program remover. Now I don't trust anyplace I go.

Try a system restore to go back before you installed the freeware.

I've been using Beyond Compare for many years and haven't found a more useful piece of software. In fact, it is the one Windows application that I miss when on other platforms. Can't recommend it highly enough. It's not free/crapware, but the $30 is well worth it for long term use. (There is a free trial.)

Thanks for that. I've been looking for a utility to do some compare work between a file server and a few computers. I can across Duplicate Cleaner, but I've not tried it yet.

From what I can see by briefly reading about Beyond Compare, it appears more powerful/useful (at least compared to the free version of dup clean).

EDIT: There are a few more of these freeware file management utilities on this CNET site, and I assume that ones which have a high editor and user rating with lots of downloads are rather unlikely to be spyware crap you stumble across using web searches. I've used WinDirStat for years and know it works well for identifying large files you might not be aware of for example.

Back in my Windows days I used a program called FolderMatch and it was quite nice. It's shareware with a free demo version.
