My X5 went in the shop today and I was given a new 328i as a loaner. Turbo 4 cylinder. Neat car albeit somewhat odd for a BMW.

Start- Stop Technology Hate it mostly, but if I was driving at an average speed of 35 mph all day I might could deal with it.

3 Mode ECU. Econo, Comfort, & Sport on a toggle switch. I wonder how long it would take before I tired of playing with the button. Reminds me of playing with a stereo equalizer and pretending to be working the "board" for Led Zeppelin.

Car is quick. Not stoopid quick or scary fast but just like most BMWs by the time you realize how fast you are actually going you are going way too fast. It spools up slower than a 135i but it seems to breathe easier and hits felony speeds with ease. Plus the nose is way lighter as is the car itself I believe.

I drove back to Apex via Mount Herman School / Farrington Road. The car likes the twistys.

I saw 230F on the water temp at one point and this was on the Triangle Expressway cruising at 80 / 85 mph. I think I could easily put this car in to limp mode during July / August. Normal operating temp appeared to be about 205F, but it is an idiot gauge so I can't be sure.

I'm headed to Pembroke in the morning with it so hopefully it makes it home. MPGs are 27 / 28 and I'm flogging it.

So as luck would have it the wife's E90 went in the shop today. Her loaner was an E90 Coupe. Having driven the F30 all day I must admit I much more prefer the chassis dynamics of the F30 over the E90. Wider and more rear drive - centric IMO.

Defintely not, and I can't believe he would like it better than the E90. I always thought Steve preferred the higher numbers.

you forget, the 2002 was a four banger. It was very popular, the 120d in europe is popular. The vw tdi twin cam has 150 hp and 250 torque. Great for a small displacement diesel. And a STI has 300 hp, not too shabby for 2 and a half litres four turbo. Bmw can still be quick, audi tt was originally a four turbo. The jetta and golf 1.8t was a quick car too.
