I understand why people don't like them....so Move them to my street. Tired of seeing people fly through my neighborhood at 40mph. We have seventeen kids under 10 on our street, (which is two blocks long) and slowing down the traffic would be beneficial.

Going over speedbumps diagonally helps with low CoG cars, BTW.

^^This. I do this in my wife's Accord too. Lessens the jarring as well.

Durham won't put speed bumps in our neighborhood until the developer finishes the road, but a 12' long 2x4 in the road usually slows down people enough that they creep over it :). I'm not sure who puts it out there every now and then ;).

I'd like to take ALL of them to your street. So many in fact your street would look like a wash board.

My solution would be to teach the children not to play in the street. Getting hit by a car hurts, ask me how I know.

Luckliy I live in a one-street subdivision in the county, so I doubt we will be getting any of these things.

Speed limit on my street is 55 with most people doing 65. Its a challenge to get in and out of my driveway w/o getting hit.

I just wish the morons in my neighborhood would actually stop at the stop signs instead of treating them like a yield sign. Combine that with the fact that most of the soccer moms think that 40 mph is close enough to 25 mph  - AB

I am of the opinion that the fast neighborhood drivers don't slow for them and they just slow down those of us who are already going to speed limit. We have had speed bump "discussions" in our neighborhood as well. I am firmly in the "don't do it" camp.

Not to be picky, but I thought these were actually speed humps (long in chord in relation to height). Unlike speed bumps found in parking lots, speed humps can be taken at reasonable speeds, even in my too low miata. I have never come anywhere near lowsiding on any of them.

That said, I am not sure I would want them on my street. I am not convinced they are effective at reducing speeding. I think it causes some drivers to speed between the humps, slow down to cross them then accelerate immediately after. I would not want one in front of my house, because if nothing else, the noise of cars slowing then accelerating in front of my home would be more noticable and annoying than the constant noise of steady speed passing car.

I don't mind speed "humps" so much, as long as I can actually drive over them going the speed limit without breaking my teeth or my car, fine. However speed "bumps" can all go to hell, there is never a reasonable reason/location for a bump that I can't take at any speed/angle in a stock ride height Mustang, the speed bumps in the parking lot of the apartment I'm living in here in Florida cannot be navigated in my Cobra at any speed, even walking pace taken diagonally the engine subframe still scrapes across the top of the bump, this is absurd and these speed bumps are everywhere around here, entry to the parking deck at my work garage, yep, Costco gas pumps, yep, multiple ones. 25 mph speed "humps" fine, but 1 mph speed "bumps" have no place in this world and should be illegal.

I'm sure Ryan can comment on the specs of both, but the speed "humps" used here in Wilson cannot be taken at 25MPH in my Mustang or my Z-24. I detest both types myself.

Dude, with revalved Bilsteins, those look 3 feet tall!

There are some new ones heading down Lake Boone Trail towards the fun 'downhill S' that are pretty annoying but on the bike I can actually get down faster than the plethora of SUVs heading that way.

I'm still convinced that the speed humps scattered through Brentwood are the most burly in town. I'm sure those are needed though to deter Capital Blvd/Atlantic Avenue 'shortcutters' as it's all residential back there.

Small world, the news reporter Charlotte Huffman, she is my first cousin's wife lol. She took it to Wayne County Public school system last week for their hiring practices. They had several convicted felons driving school buses.

Good job Neal, I hate the damn things. Speeding in your neighborhood? Call your police/sheriff's dept. We had an undercover sit out at our house three weeks ago (I live on the corner of a major road thru my neighborhood) and issued 12 citations 8)
