I found what looks like a homeless persons camp in some woods near my house. There are always homeless people at the intersection of chapel hill rd and 40. I assume it's one of theirs. I am too chicken to scope it out by myself. You guys think the cops will care enough to check it out? It's on state property between chapel swill rd and the the state fairgrounds horse arena.

How about instead of messing around in the woods with the homeless people, you come out and autocross or something :).

It's cold right now, how about putting out some sleeping bags, coats and a pot of hot soup - rather than having the cops run them off (do that in the spring when it's nice out).

The camp appeared to be organized and well equipped.

Yeah this campsite looks to be well equipped and has been there for about two yrs now.

We had a couple of homeless guys camping out behind our church. We were real nice to them, gave them permission to use the property, invited them to church, gave them coffee when they came to church. Everybody accepted them.

Last week they got drunk and got in a big fight, the one that got the worst of it passed out in a bloody heap in the shrubs in front of our day car center.

Wow, that sounds pleasant  It's a tough moral decision as there are social services setup (homeless shelters, food kitchens, etc.) to help these people, but to get them to use them often times requires getting law enforcement involved.

In Marcus' situation, I would be a little bit worried about safety, given that a % of the homeless are mentally ill. I really don't know what is more helpful, directly aiding them, or getting the authorities involved. :? - AB

The percentage is close to 50 or higher depending what you read. Homeless shelters aren't intended to care for the mentally ill. I'm going to call the po-po today.

I can't say I blame you, even though I understand others points of view on the topic. - AB

Our new place is pretty close to there and Judi's talked to a few of them a couple times. I'd be really surprised if the police weren't already well aware of them.
