I learned recently that a Concours d'Elegance is planned at the Pinehurst resort on Sunday May 5: http://www.pinehurstconcours.com/

It's modeled on the shows at Pebble Beach, Amelia Island, etc:

It will be held on the 1st holes of the Pinehurst #3 and #5 golf courses.

It's limited to 118 cars, by invitation only (by that, I mean you submit your car for entry at http://www.pinehurstconcours.com/entrant and the organizers invite the 118 entrants they like the most). The judging classes are:

Brass Era Cars 1895 to 1915
Production Prewar 1916 to 1942
Production Postwar 1946 to 1982
American and European Classics 1925 to 1948
Sports and GT Cars 1946 to 1966
Sports and GT Cars 1967 and on
American Muscle Cars 1961 to 1974
Race Cars 1900 to present
Preservation Cars
Corvette Anniversary
Porsche Featured Marque Cars
The cars of Holman Moody (Display; non-judged)

Lee Holman, of Holman & Moody, will be honored.

General Admission tickets are only $43 through April 30, from the website listed above. (This is a steal for this kind of show -- Pebble Beach Concours tickets start at $200)

In addition:

On Friday May 3, concours entrants will take part in a road rally to Fort Bragg and back, with a special ceremony on the Main Post Parade Field.

On Saturday, May 4, there will be a classic car auction. General admission tickets are $28, from http://www.RKMCollectorCarAuctions.com

Finally, they're looking for "reliable" volunteers: http://www.pinehurstconcours.com/volunteer

I so wanted to go to this, but instead my wife suggested I go to my niece's wedding. Tried to argue my way out of that but no dice....

I got an email yesterday announcing a Saturday morning show at Pinehurst for lesser cars :)

Les, too bad you moved. Your six-million dollar Corvette would certainly be the class the field!

Corvette vs. Porsche Lineup Prelude to Pinehurst Concours

VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. (April 4, 2013) – Corvettes and Porsches from across the region are being invited to attend the inaugural Pinehurst Fairway Drive presented by AutoTrader Classics, with each brigade headed by cars owned by automotive executive and champion car owner Rick Hendrick and business executive and noted Porsche collector Bob Ingram.

Up to 118 selected Corvettes and Porsches will be staged in battlefield formation Saturday, May 4, on the same two fairways adjacent to the famed Pinehurst Resort Clubhouse that will house the show field for the inaugural Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, May 5.

“Rick and I are excited about presenting our particular collector car of choice in what is truly going to be a memorable weekend in the annals of North Carolina automobile history,” said Ingram, the honorary chairman of the Pinehurst Concours. “Car enthusiasts will see quite a collection of sports cars as a warm-up to the main Pinehurst Concours showcase event Sunday.”

Potential entrants for the Pinehurst Fairway Drive presented by AutoTrader Classics are asked to log on to www.pinehurstconcours.com and submit model, year and any show history. Entrants will be notified of their selection by April 12. Once the invitation is accepted, a field parking pass will be mailed.

Cars will load the field between 7 a.m.-9 a.m. May 4, with the staging open to the public free of charge from 9 a.m.-noon. After viewing the rare Corvettes and Porsches fans can attend a classic car auction staged by RKM Collector Car Auctions at the nearby Pinehurst Fair Barn.

More than 100 collectable autos will be for sale at the Saturday auction. General admission tickets for the auction are $25, with discounts for seniors, students, military and children. See www.RKMCollectorCarAuctions.com for details.

General admission tickets for the Pinehurst Concours on May 5 are now on sale at an introductory price of $40. VIP packages are also available to the competition of vintage and rare autos. See www.pinehurstconcours.com for details, scheduling and ticketing information, or call 910-973-6594.

dang...when you said for "lesser" cars I was hoping there would be an announcement for a Concours d'Lemons at the nearby municipal golf course.

My Corvette should not be included in any sort of "d'Elegance" event. :) Even the "lesser" cars probably have a fully painted front bumper.

I drove by that on my way to the Concorso Italiano show a few years ago. I can also claim to have made a tour of Dodi Auto Sales, where Wayne Carini bought the Volvo P1800 "Krappen Targa" that won him the Swedish Meatball class win.

You'll get more seat time by driving to Pinehurst than by driving to Fayetteville. :P

Updated with the final batch of entrants. Includes a Ford GT-40 Mk II, which they say was driven in competition by Mario and AJ, and it's painted the right color :)

There's also a classic car auction on Saturday in Pinehurst - the list of cars http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/auctions/cars#!/ seems to be a bit fluid. Yesterday I was really getting into what was the 2nd lot, a 1963 Falcon hardtop, red, vintage gray torque-thrusts and 289/4 speed. I guess someone decided to take early delivery :(

They've announced the show date for next year - May 4. Attn A/X VPs -- please do not book events against that weekend!

http://us5.campaign-archive1.com/?u=1c4 ... 869972f121

Featured classes include "Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary", "Porsche Turbo 40th Anniversary" and "Wood-bodied 1915-1950". Sorry, no "Howling, twitchy AP1" class, but a "non-judged display class will include a variety of unique race cars".

I'm thinking of entering my 1990 Mustang 5.0. If they won't take it in the 50th Anniv. class, then I'll try the "unique race cars" class. I'm sure that key phrases on my entry form like "sand-blasted rocker panel patina", "questionable provenance", and "indefatigable CEL" will score me a place on the show field.

Nice try George, but real Concours d'Elegance people in the know have a solution. Take, for example, this lovely Bugatti:
