Is anyone hiring right now? My oldest son Drew is back at the house “starting over”. I’m trying to help him find some decent employment. In brief, he’s done video game testing, has a AA graphics degree, preformed retail and call center work and designed several items for the club. He's also proficient at Apple related items. He’s open to most anything right now and I want him off of my payroll. Please let me know if you have any leads.
Rodney,
I know NOTHING about this field or its "real" requirements (talent, education, etc.) but a guy on Roadraceautox posted these statements yesterday: FYI he is in the Fairfax, VA area so the key point may be his claim that there are lots of entry level web developer jobs that only require a month of full time at home learning. Sounds iffy to me.
"My industry is a perfect example of this. TONS of high-paying jobs, we're ALWAYS hiring. You can get an entry-level job in my industry with a solid month of at-home work (if you've got another job, devote 15 hours a week to learning, and you could be at entry-level
web developer status within 3 months). People just flat refuse to do that. Why? Beats the shit out of me. So a lot of companies hire from outside the country (honestly, usually turns out to cost more than it would to have hired in-house, but people here just don't want to do the work). How does THAT get fixed? The jobs are there, people don't want them, yet are furious when companies NEED the people yet HAVE to hire overseas?"
And
"I'd hire anyone as an entry-level dev who shows "Hey, I've put a LOT of effort over the past couple months to learn. Here's what I want to keep learning." I'm DEFINITELY not alone in this."
