Well, I've been able to get MMS working. I actually have 2 different APN settings that work, found one online and Whitney sent me the other (thanks Mike!).
But I'm having HORRIBLE reception/signal. I realize that I live in BFE so the signal might not be the greatest, but I spent some time checking the signal today as we were in several different locations around Raleigh.
Sitting in Cameron Village the signal bounced around within a range of ~ -111 to -100 or so. Trying to pull up a facebook page I got a "no connection" error. Driving around downtown Raleigh, the signal was a bit better, but still fluctuated a good bit, the best I think I saw was ~ -87. Sitting here in my house, the signal is anywhere from ~ -111 to -101, though I usually have WiFi turned on so data is not an issue, but call quality is not great to say the least.
I see alot of posts/threads on various forums about similar issues, and the common link seems to be that while some people have lots of problems, many have no problems at all.
I've spoken to ST about it and they say there's no problem on their end, I guess the next thing to do is try to call Google CS and see what they say.
I've used Speedtest.net on this thing several times since I activated it, in various parts of town, and the best I've seen has been ~6800 kbs download and ~1100 kbps up, the worst was ~540kbps and ~71kbps (NOT a typo- these numbers were at my house).
Just feeling a bit frustrated that this is not working better. I understand there are good and bad reception areas, but it seems like my reception is ALOT worse than it should be.
Brett, FWIW, in the rain tonight (have no idea whether that matters), ours is at -105, and doesn't hold a consistent data connection. We're on wifi at home usually though, so I hadn't even noticed. Call quality has been nothing to complain about, and it's frankly no worse than sprint was (i.e. data was unusable at the house). I checked a couple areas in the house and got 3.7-5 Mbps down and 20-80 kbps up. In all ways, however, the overall usage of this phone and service has been no worse and generally better than our Sprint phones were.
As a side note, the inductive charger I mentioned above is working well... haven't used anything else to charge the phone since we got it. It's probably a little slower to charge than the hard wire, and the phone needs to be placed in the right spot, but once that's figured out (has beeps and lights so you know right away) it "just works". No complaints here.
