My wife and I have been wanting to buy a trabby! Probably get one in the future when we can justify blowing some cash on stupidity.
I love those cars!
The Trabant is purely the most ridiculous yet durable car I ever seen, that is what makes them so interesting.

I want to get a P601 Combi Wagon to turn into a rally car for light rally cross, tarmac rally, and occashional autcross.

I have been on his site before. He has a white Combi for sale; however, he wanted more than I could muster for it.

this video is long, but it is all in german.. It talks about how people construct the little bugger. mostly the duraplast body panels.. Which really reminds of how they make jeans really. Did you know toyota used to make textiles? Mitsubishi made the planes that bombed pearl harbor, Mitsubishi zeros. Subaru used to make planes too, ultra lights and stuff like that. Now they make all manner of things. Bmw has motors that are made in Hungary.. VW I think has plants there too.

I rode and my father rode in a p600 trabant sedan I believe, in DC. It was not a bad little car, for such small displacement and the fact thta the top speed was 69 mph. It pulled nicely around town, and did not bog when he had shift from 1 to 3 gear. Because 2nd synchro was acting up.. Could not really use 2nd gear. It an old car, not designed ot last for a long time.. So we forgave it, although it was rattling and shaking on rough DC roads, the seats were padded nicely, and it did not feel that bad really. It pulled decently around town speeds, rode well for such a light car, and was generally not bad, I even had head room. Rare for me, I had to bend down a little to see through the windshield, but being tall in a older car is like that. Overall it was not bad, we got lost though! We went around and around to find the spy museum again. When I have some money again, I plan to go back. Not a cheap trip up to dc, but every fall they do it in NOV some time. So it should be fun sometime again. Maybe I will ride with the guy again. My father was in the backseat fliming, he said it was not really spacious, but he is used to bmw so MG sized cars are lost on him. My shoulder touched the other guy shoulder in the front seat.. But the mg when I was little, I could touch the back tire from the passenger seat, so all in all not a bad thing. Now I could probably touch the ground from a lowered mg! 8)
