Eric and I went karting with the twin engine karts at VIR yesterday afternoon. Boy was it a blast! It was my 2nd time on a go-kart, 1st time being on the andretti speed lab 6hp deals. This thing was just a *tad* more powerful :D

Its very cool how all your driving faults are amplified x 10 when youre on a kart. The nice thing is, adjusting them yields big results as well. I never got the hang of the 3 hairpins on the course as well as the whole "brake early turn early" thing and got taken to the woodshed bigtime! Eric is pretty damn fast in the karts (and everything else) :)

I spun HARD on the 3rd lap as I was braking while hitting a rumble strip.

Then right towards the end, I got way loose coming out the tight hairpin and put 2 wheels off in the dirt and threw some sparks from the chassis.

I'm surprisingly not sore today for doing a 20 and then a 40 minute session.

Highly recommended.

Don't anyone tell Tom that I paid the guy at VIR $50 to only start 1 of his 2 engines....and dammit, I could still barely stay ahead of him :-)

Yes, if you get the chance to run VIRs kart track, it's a pretty nice deal. The single engine karts are only $80 for an hour. While slower, they handle better and are easier to drive. The twins ($120) are tougher to drive well and much less forgiving, but they do have extra power & that's cool. I definitely suggest starting off with the singles. Tom is right, they certainly force you to execute the basics and punish you immediately when you don't. I always feel like I drive better after some seat time at a kart track.
