Hello, I was watching youtube today. And someone said that a turbo f1 car from the 1980s was faster than a v10 screamer of today. Now given the dual clutch gearbox of today, and how much the v10 can make on its own without power adders , I still hold that a modern f1 car is faster now, than it may have been 30 years ago..Due to aero technology and advancements in tires design.I still think that a renault or ferrari can out run a f1 turbo car around monaco or even silverstone.

Pete, you have your F1 eras mixed up a bit. The high rev (close to 20k rpm) v10 engines have been gone for awhile now. The current engines are rev limited (18k rpm) 2.4l na v8 engines. They are switching to 1.6l turbo v6 in 2014. Power will be limited by fuel flow restrictions.

But in general you are right. The old turbo cars made much more power than the new cars, but I think the newer cars hold the track records due to better aerodynamics (lower drag and much higher downforce). Modern cars with the old turbo engines (1500 hp in qual) would be scary fast.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.
