received two odd e-mails regarding my tiller on craigslist. both from females which would seem odd as it is a farm implement but anyway.....

the first e-mail had a similar look to the craigslist contact page but was only black and white and much less text. the link provided opened an e-mail from me to ask a question about my item.

the second e-mail wanted to know if this was my item as some other item had the same pictures. the link provided took me to a craigslist sign in page. i don't think i ever set up a member id or password for craigslist.

i get the feeling i am being hacked in some way.

It sounds as if you're being phished. They want you to click the links and try to login. Which will give them your username and password.

As a general rule, you should never click on a link in an email.

^^^^^What he said as well ^^^^^^^

Hacked? No. Craigslist scammed? Yes.

Unless you put some kind of notable personal information in the body of your ad (which you didn't...right?), your typical CL scammer can't get any personal information that you don't offer up. You're safe in that regard.

Now...they will try to scam you into one of many classic, stupid scams to get you to pay something to them with the promise of them paying you much more than you asked for, or some other "too good to be true" kinda thing.

Well agreed, but I figured it was craigslist at first.

As well as poor English / English as 2nd or 3rd language wording, and almost any mention of someone who isn't local, but has a local representative.

Another scam involves someone copying your post, including photos of what you're selling, then having the interested parties contact them for payment (of course they don't have the actual item to sell). This has happened to be before.
