First and foremost ... set your Field of View so that it's not distorting the screen.

If you're not on a multi-screen set up, you'll lose some peripheral, but it's a small price to pay for accurate distance viewing and sense of speed. Use the virtual mirror and don't worry too much about the "actual" mirrors on the cars. I've found most of them to be quite useless. (You can also set the FOV within the virtual mirror so that objects in them are more realistic in terms of distance.)

Also, be sure to turn your spotter on. He can be a little annoying sometimes, but he'll also save your ass if you can't see someone beside you.

As far as hosting, there are LOTS of possibilities with it. I'd be happy to help out and host some practice and race sessions for whomever is interested.

Chuck's recently gotten involved and we're considering doing some online training sessions with it once he gets more used to it.

Thanks! I never really spent the time to get into it seriously - it would be nice to do some HPDE-ish club sessions to let everyone get up to speed.

I can't bring myself to do something so vile to my Mac. No way. :)

A league would be cool. My guess is we really need more than just six or seven people, though, for it to be viable.

I'm pretty busy this week and gone next week, so it's okay that it's going to be the week after or so that I have all my ducks in a row anyway. Think I've figured out my monitor situation and only need to buy a video card to bring a PC to life that can handle this, too. It'll be a three display 24" setup from the get-go.

I tried the Bootcamp route, and it was a pain to reboot my laptop and hook everything up every time I wanted to race. Does anyone have specs for a budget 3 display setup including PC? I've already got the wheel and foot pedals from the last time.

there's a guy near me selling a system with two ati 6870 video cards (each of which is perfect for a three monitor setup). if you want i'll buy it, remove one of the cards, and install it in a second system. that way i'll end up with two good iracing rigs, one for you and one for me. that is, if you trust me to handle computer stuff for you :)

Yeah... but it's a very inexpensive pain!!!

So would the consensus be that we've got enough iRacers here to at least start a "feeler" thread for a THSCC league? Or at the very least, a regular hosted practice session?

If so, I'll start a new thread for it where we can discuss ideas & options.

Also... be sure to check your 'MyRacers' page for incoming friend requests (scroll to the bottom of the page if you've got a lot of driver's already being "studied")

In addition to Chuck, we've also got access probably to Peter Krause (big iRacing proponent) and Mike Skeen who might be willing to help out some.

Zach, how do you turn 1.02xxx at Okayama? I can't get faster than 1.04! I think I'm losing time coming off the uphill ess, but going any faster just pushes me off the track.

I'd be up for practice tonight - I haven't bought VIR yet, where/what cars are you thinking of?

I'd take advantage of the promo's they've got going on now... buy content, get credit.

VIR is good, and is absolutely the best re-creation of the track in any sim... but it is one of the oldest scans in iRacing, so it's lacking a little in detail compared to some of the newer tracks.

Spa is a must-have, Suzuka as well... Road America... Road Atlanta.

The Ford GT and Aussie V8 have the best sounds in iRacing I think... but both are beasts to drive. The Vette is well worth the money, as is the Acura LMP car. All of those are on the "New Tire Model" have have the most realistic physics available.

Everyone's got the Miata, and it's also on the new tire model... and since it's a good bet every one of us as experienced a miata in some form or fashion, I think that would be a good car to start with.

Should we do Lime Rock in the MX5, for simplicity? I will be on most of the evening, since the wife and kids are gone....
