Ah gotchya. Yeah, the MX-5 Cup is quite similar to NASA Spec Miata.

One trick that has been working for me to avoid n00b drivers is to start on pole position and lead the whole race! :-P

True, but that requires extra effort in qualifying. I just show up, start mid pack and watch the fun. Sometimes I get tangled up in it, but it's just a sim....not srs bsns, right?

If you want to really learn the terrain at VIR, try driving the course backwards. It's pretty amazing the things you realize going backward that never seemed significant before. Will it make you faster there? I don't know, maybe not, but it is an eye-opener in stuff like the roller coaster, going into Oak Tree, etc. A lot of us have driven Patriot course both directions in real life, but other parts of VIR of course are not suitable for opposite direction traffic.

1. Windows sucks, but iRacing will probably never have a Mac or Linux client, :( so we are forced to deal with it.
2. My "gaming rig" is several years old, doesn't play iRacing on max graphics, but is quite playable at lower quality (Athlon64 X2, 2GB DDR1, NVIDIA GTX260). It also hasn't had its OS updated in ages, and I've disabled all the auto update notifications. Works like a charm!
3. For me, the competitiveness, online rankings/safety rating, real tracks, decent physics, and constant presence of people to race with online makes this the best racing sim experience I've found (I have tried LFS, GT5, rFactor).

Scott, I sent you a friend request on iRacing. Hope to see you and Steven in some MX-5 Cup races sometime. ;)

So is there an easy button PC one can buy that'll support the 3 monitor thing in iRacing? Which full seat setup is the best bang for one's buck?

Simply to whet the appetite.....this is what a 3-monitor iRacing setup looks and feels like.

Edit...that's five monitors. Plus gloves....and I think the dude is wearing a GoPro. That may be a bt over the top.

Dammit, I've been able to ignore the iRacing thing until you had to think of this. Now I gotta go see if I can figure out if my PC can handle it.

Hey for you PC dorks in the room, any advice on what kind of "windows 7 experience" scores I need to see for a machine to be decent?

Okay, I would like to restate my request: What hardware would I need to run five monitors??? Jeez, that's pretty awesome. And what is that display behind the wheel? Is that part of the feedback wheel packages these days? I'm so out of that loop. Do they have H pattern shifters on them now, or are they all still just sequential style?

Multi-monitor setups in Win7 are a breeze to setup and use in my experience. For one main workstation in my office I just used two dual-DVI cards and spread the desktop across all of them ending up with 4800x1600 desktop (four 1600x1200 lcd panels in vertical). Zero problems with Win7...it just recognized everything right away and has a nice utility where you tell it how the monitors as they are situated physically.

jeezzz, that's a setup. I say everyone in the club gets that setup and we just give up on the real stuff. We can drive in climate controlled comfort all year long and never get your hands dirty. I do recommend that everyone stop by Hardee's before we start to race though.... 8)

We'd need to change the name to the Tar Heel Virtual Sports Car Club, though.

{rubs hands diabolically} heh heh heh

Be advised that it (iRacing) is a recurring expense, and tracks/cars cost extra. I have managed to only buy 2 tracks and one car in three years, so there's alot of fun to be had with the freebies. But, if you cancel/suspend your subscription, then re-up later, your in-game purchases are reinstated. So that's nice.

Check the iRacing forums for set up ideas. I know my PC setup costs under $700 by now, not including monitors. Can be easily justified as a "training expense" in your racing budget...
