The stock shocks are better on the street. They deal with bumps better. I prefer the konis for autox. I had a shock that was leaking and the konis were on sale.

Regarding torque, there really isn't any of it. Any S2000 will probably feel broken if driven back to back with an STI. An AP1 will feel slightly more broken.

My H-stock car makes more torque than an S2000. . .

Just try to avoid this combo Kevin. Go for it man. It's not like the resale will shift too much if you don't like it and get rid of it. They seem to be holding their values for the last few years. Don't ask me how I know..

Although the Suzuka is pretty sweet though. Is there actually anyone out there that wouldn't mind owning an S2000? My wife saw Marcus' and brought up the unthinkable by the mention of buying one (thought she hated convertables), and go to a three car household.

My '95 Taurus GL makes more torque than an S2000 AP2 - at exactly half the RPM.
That said, the adrenaline and fear of mechanical disaster brought on by sidestepping an S2000's clutch at 6000 RPM makes for quite a rush.

I was going to say my car makes more than all 3 combined, but I'm 50 torques short. Bernie or Les might have to come along to say it.

Same as an M3 or 540. If you're on Erie you will get the "we normally don't insure this kind of car, but since your agent has lied and said you are a good risk we'll let this one slide"

Fixed that for you.

Thanks Cline, I owe you a beer :)

Wait ... people in insurance lie? I had no idea. Maybe you should go into politics.

pretty sure it doesn't pay enough given Cline's current situation, influence is nothing without credibility. i hear he is the most influential person in Greenville without an elected mandate.

I know some folks have run stock CR shocks with reasonable success, but they've not lasted real long. Chris Travis had a BS CR that he ran stock shocks on, and he liked them a lot, but I think he said they lasted under a year. His car was not a daily driver.

There is a reason the engine builders don't even bother to rate the engine torque on a 125cc two stroke. :D

PS: Kevin just go buy one, you know you will like it.

Assuming 15% drivetrain loss on the dyno, I'm about 3 torks shy of of all three combined, of course that is if you can believe the factory rated torque number for the RX8.

S2000, of course. I've been reading about them on the Internet, and I know I want the AP1 if I get one, but I have some questions for the dozens of owners in here. So let's get started...

What year do you have, and why did you choose it?
2007. The seller was old so I figured he wouldnt be thrashing the hell out of it and it had under 10K miles for 23K so it was the best deal I found.

What class are you running now/planning to run next year?
BS-TIR

What have you modified and how did that work out for you?
The only mod that really means anything to me is the modifry glove box organizer which makes the vertical storage actually useful.

What wheels/tires are you using, and do you have any wear issues (or other issues)?
Bridgestone RE-11's. about 5K miles with the UK alignment settings seem to wear pretty evenly.

Are there any years you would avoid, and why?
pre-2002 because I personally dont like the plastic rear window but I know several people who still have the original and it does tend to tear away from the vinyl. You probably have already seen this but here is the all of the changes from year to year. http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/568555- ... eful-info/

What issues should I look out for, and what should I expect to replace soon and/or often?
Many owners complain about rear tires wearing quickly but I have no issue (Im sure its a matter of tires, alignment and driving habits). The top tears from the rough rails rubbing is a TSB (you can pre-emptively patch that spot before it wears threw). The TCT seems to be poorly designed so you hear that card in spoke noise but I did the worm gear/piston sleeve sandblast fix and that seems to work fine. I read about alot of people skip shifting (commonly people rev up to 8K or 9K getting onto the freeway and realize they are going 90mph so change up to 6th) This has caused damage to the single synchro in 5-6 which is why some people have complained about 5-6 lockout. The transmission should be very smooth without any notchy feeling.

Are you daily driving yours? What sort of comfort/convenience items should I look for?
Yes I DD mine unless we get snow or serious rain then I drive the Legacy. The modifry glove box organizer should have come with this car, I highly recommend it. Also find the secret compartment above the glove box, alot of dealers dont even know it exists. I only found receipts and maintenance records but other people have found everything from little black books to ky-jelly

What kind of gas mileage do you get?
My avg is 22 (roughly 70/30 city/hwy). My best was 28.5 all hwy down to FL at 80mph.

How expensive is insurance?
Adding the car, full coverage, to my policy with partial coverage on the Legacy added about 80% to my premium.

Is the plastic rear window going to be a problem, or no?
Again Im not a fan, others dont mind it and some love it. Its around 800$ to get a new top with a glass window should that ever become necessary.

Seen any good ones lately?
http://vicbaileyhonda.com/used-inventory/HONDA-S2000. For low miles its nice but I wouldnt pay this much on an 01'. Hendrick has a black 01' with 70K miles for 13K which seems reasonable. Prices do seem to be going back up though, maybe theyll drop again over the winter months. Good luck.

Thanks!

Thanks, Chris. Good info. And thanks for the link, but I won't be getting a red one. It's going to need to be Gravel Gray.
