One of my impoverished daughters is in bad need of a car. My 94 Miata sits in my driveway not getting alot of use. Its in good condition, new top, tires, recent water pump etc. I am wondering about giving it to her but the problem is she lives in Wisconsin. Anybody have much experience with them in the snow? She literally lives on Main st so everything should be plowed most of the time.

I also have thought about seeing if any one had anything else they would like to trade for it.

I drove one of my old Miatas in the snow a couple times...I don't recommend doing it on worn out Azenis! There is something exhilarating about spinning on I-440 at 0430 with no one else on the road!

But I know several people who throw a set of snow tires and don't have problem in the snow.

I would offer you up my '02 Buick Park Ave with leather and all the bells and whistles. Indestructible 3.8l engine and it rides well.

But my wife would kill me!

Why anyone would WANT to live in a place with cold and snow like that just baffles me.

I bought a set of Blizzaks for our Miata collection a few years ago. Unbelievable winter traction. Like your first set of sticky tires. Put the top down and the Miata turns into a snowmobile. As long as snow depths don't exceed 4-6 inches she'll be fine traction wise.
The only problem she might have is with the soft top and the plastic window. The lack of defrost might be a problem, but that could be fixed by a hardtop ....

ABS? I wouldn't want to combine RWD and no ABS with bad weather.

I really worry about the top in that frigid cold, it does have a glass window in the new top.

I just told my wife this morning thats exactly what I would like to find. I think I might start hanging out at the funeral home and try to find some 85 year old that bought it that bought it new when they retired!

The biggest problem with the Miata is going to be ground clearance. With decent snow tires anything can drive in snow. Second closest problem will be the top. Hard tops can be found on CL in the 800-1200 range.

I used to DD a 1985 Monte Carlo in Jersey, working the night shift. Never had any problems unless I was lazy with getting the snow tires on it.

Steve, let me translate: impoverished daughter=broke ass kid. Hence, my thoughts of giving her my $1500 miata. now if PJ wants to trade that's another matter.
