The problem looking for a non-sunroof E46 ZHP is the rarity of the cars. I accidentally stumbled upon mine about 6 years ago, but you hardly ever see one for sale. If you do find one, you can only hope that it is in the condition you would want to buy it.

The E90 330i is a much "better" car in many regards as Steve has alluded to. However, in other ways it's not. I've had both now for coming up on 6 years. The E90 has been much more reliable, has a more solid chassis (torsional/bending rigidity), better bushing design (i.e. unlike the E46 thrust bushing and RTAB replacement intervals), etc. The E90 330i is 3450lbs vs E46 ZHP is 3370lbs -- hence the E90 although a good bit larger and stiffer, etc, is only 80lbs more. The E46 ZHP is a good bit more fun to drive though. Acceleration-wise, both 330is are almost identical (since the E90 330i has 255hp), i.e. 0-60 in 5.6 sec according to C&D, both at 14.3 in 1/4 mile with the E90 trapping 1mph faster at 98mph vs 97 for the ZHP. The E90 with sunroof has significantly more headroom than the E46 with sunroof but not as much as E46 without one.

The sport package seats in the E90 are a lot nicer imo. Inflatable side bolsters, more comfortable on trips, all around better.

Given all that, the E46 ZHP is definitely going to be the quicker car on an autox course (both as DS cars). I've autocrossed them both. The E46 is an STX car while the E90 330i (or 328i) is an STU car for whatever stupid reason the SCCA has; hence any mods in that direction is highly non-E90-friendly.

hey hey HEY! I resemble that remark. BTW, I'll have you know I've had the white e36 for 8 years now. That's a record for me!

You want someone to pick on for quick turn around of cars, pick on Les. I'm only up to car #40. Les is like on car 55 and I have 10 years on him if not more!

I beg to differ el presidente, I've only had ~35 cars and haven't purchased one in close to two years. I've had the Miata now for 7 years, a record for me. Oh, and you have like 15 years on me.

Rodney - if that idiot Leno had done the decent thing and pulled my name in this drawing last summer
http://www.casamonterey.org/docx/2011Co ... -FINAL.pdf
I would have cut you a real deal. The actual car was white with elephant-gray interior, and as ugly as any 1-Series ever made, but it was a six-speed and I figured it would be a fun drive home :)

Since you're a tall fellow and need a roomy car, I'll recommend another ugly BMW - the previous generation 6-series. V8, six-speed manual, and lots of headroom. http://www.edmunds.com/bmw/6-series/2004/?sub=coupe

Rodney, this looks like a fun car to autocross in TIR class and daily drive (especially on the highway). This '02 is a rare combo of no sunroof and the cloth seats. I gave up after 6 months looking for that combo when searching for mine. I don't have any affiliation with the Weavers but this one might be worth mentioning. M3 S54 rasp at WOT = droooool

Ding! Ding! Ding!

I don't think Rodney had any problems with his S197 (check engine light doesn't work on these cars) so I can't for the life of me see why he keeps searching for another Hans designed/built product. :brow:

lol... I had the 330 vert after the mustang and that's it. I liked the mustang, a lot. I hated the mustang, a lot. If I could have the new interior on a 07-09 car, then I'd keep it. I'd had enough of the plastic interior on my 07. Also hated the nose dive when braking hard. If I could find a great deal on a 08 bullitt, I'd consider that as well, but everyone's a little too proud of those and the prices just aren't coming down.

This I'm going to have to go look at. A little over my price range, but maybe.... Good to read the bearing issues was fixed in this M3.
