Not a big fan of the e90 styling and the dumbed down interior and lack of a dip stick. I'd consider a 328, but not the 335. Too many headaches from what I've read. Friend of mine has a 335 and on his 3rd fuel pump.

I do like the new f30 3 series from what I've seen, but WAY out of my price range right now.

E90 328i with a six-speed would rock. other than the dumb cupholders it is a great car. i can get four tires, a jack, impact wrench and a cooler in it.

That's a nice car you linked, but out of my price range.

so for you mini's drivers out there. How do you tell if the car is a sports package car? Easy enough to tell on the bimmer w/ different seats. What do you look for in the mini?

When you search on autotrader just add lsd or limited slip to your search criteria. I think the lsd was a separate upgrade from the sports package.

Do a burnout. If you leave one tire mark, it doesn't have an LSD :) In all seriousness, I don't think there is an easy way to tell.

I fit without any big problems, but if I remember, your height is different than my height. I'm all legs. I remember when I drove your 328 way back in the day, the seat was so low I could barely see over the dash.

There IS a height adjustment on the driver's seat though. Make sure its all the way down. I can't comfortably fit with a helmet on the passenger side.

That doesn't work so well with a torsen since soon as one tire breaks loose completely, you have *almost* an open diff. With a clutch based LSD with lots of preload, you should have 2 tire marks :).

The best way to find out if it has an LSD is to get the VIN and call BMW.

No I haven't Steve.... I like both. I think my biggest challenge will be finding a ZHP non sunroof car which is what I'd prefer.

I'm also not locked into these 2 cars. Open to other options....as long as it fits my price point and I can fit in the car.

so, according the to the interweb, there's no good way to tell if the mini has an LSD short of 2 ways to check. One is to use the vin to see the options either on line or call the dealer. I haven't found a good VIN on line decoder yet. Anyone know of one? Next is to jack the car up, place into neutral and spin one tire. If the other spins in the same direction, it's supposed to LSD. This true?

No. With a torsen style LSD, the tires will spin in opposite directions like an open diff.

If you have a VIN you can call Mini USA or BMW USA to get the options package.

Rodney, if STAC rule changes go through the MS3 or 2008 WRX may be great choices for STX...likely in your price range from what you describe.

Steve, there you go trying to get me to spend more money and putting me into STX  . Really would like to stay stock for now. All those STx options have a quick way lightening my wallet and with a still iffy jobs outlook, would like to minimize the spend.

94-97 Miata with torsen $3-4k
maintenance (Timing belt, water pump, idler/tensioner, clutch, tob, pilot, radiator): $500
set of 14x6 wheels: $300
set of 225/50/14 A6s: $900 (will last 2 seasons)
set of koni yellows: $500
racing beat front bar: $150

ES car for around $5k and Jordan can tote the tires to the events in that back of the MCS :).

Not to mention 30 MPG, super super cheap parts, reliable as hell, soft springs with adjustable dampers for comfy DD duty, easily sell-able within the club

OR, he could buy a trailer hitch and use the trailer he already has or I could build him a tire tail....

Yeah, thought about this, but when I get in one of these cars, all I see in my line of sight is the top bow of the windshield. This would also be a 2nd convertible since I already have the e30 325 and I don't need another one. Would also like some back seats to carry crap around.
