That's what she said.

And that engine doesn't look happy.

Ruled out: the tensioner and idler bolt. I have yet to get the crank pulley off.

Oil pump bolt is MIA. That would explain why the timing is off. I don't know yet if it broke off or managed to back itself out.

An engine builder told me that he'd pull the engine, take it to a machinist so that the machinist could put it on a mill and extract the bolt that way. He said doing it by hand is possible, but blind and that I have to be careful and not use stupid shit like an Easy-Out. The crank pulley comes off today, so oh boy~~

Is this a "loctite" situation or a "distorted threads or at least new bolt/nut" situation during a normal rebuild? :?:

(obviously in this case you need new parts . . . :( )

I don't know if it is normal to use loctite thread locker in internal engine, etc. locations. :?:

I don't know why that bolt backed out, but I have blue loctite and a 3/8 drive torque wrench handy. That sucker is totally getting torqued to spec.

Backstory: This engine went in my car back in February/March. That hole in the valve cover happened yesterday morning on I-40 West right before the 1 interchange. When I put the engine in the car with James Milko, we did the timing belt, waterpump, seals, etc; didn't touch anything on the oil pump. I need to swing by NAPA to grab a new belt, and hopefully this thing will be pieced back together by tomorrow evening... with the caveat that the threads to the oil pump are intact and this was just a completely random occurrence.

And to think that this weekend all I wanted to do was my brakes, re-attach the rear sway bar, and do an oil change.
