Hi Everyone, I just bought a 91 Spirit RT to race in the 2011 Grassroots Motorsports Challenge. Its white with 78k miles, ABS, power seat, and power windows. Interior is mint and the exterior has no dents or dings. It has a new windshield, new timing belt, and everything works. Tires are new and the brakes work perfect. It has zero rust and is accident free. It was listed for $2,000 on craigslist and with a little haggling I paid $1,700 and drove it home.

This leaves $311 dollars to spruce the car up and hopefully make her a lil faster.

1. PAINT $100-$150 The hood and roof are peeling. The rest of the body looks great. I plan to use high quality materials here rather than a cheap single stage stuff.

2. SHOCKS and STRUTS $100-$150 The car rolls and wallows down the highway. I'm quite sure the stock 20 year old struts and shocks are done. The best deal seems to be KYB GR2's for about $120 new. I don't think there is money for springs in the budget so I will likely cut a half coil off each spring.

3. COLD AIR INTAKE. $0-$50 The previous owner installed a cone filter directly above the turbo so it's sucking in very hot air. Hopefully, he will find the stock intake for me but if he doesn't, I will try to route some heavy duty flexhose to a cooler location.

4. BOOST CONTROL. $0-$50 I would love to trade someone my stock ECU for a performance ECU but short of that, I will try to work out some sort of manual boost control.

SUGGESTIONS PLEASE????????

If anyone local is a mopar 2.2 enthusiast, I want to rerun some vacuum lines and check timing.

Anyone have a tool to measure timing belt tension that I could borrow?

It has been brought to my attention that I should consider autos tires above struts. I feel that the paint is a must to do well in the concours portion but what do u guys think about tires vs struts with the remaining budget?

Item 3: How about focus on getting cool air to the filter instead? The less restriction you have around the turbo the better it will work.

I am either going to make a heat shield or I'm going to move the filter with some heavy duty flexhose. Haven't decided yet.

Jeremy, thx, I will likely take you up on that. I'm either gonna need a sheet of heat insulation, some heavy duty flex hose, or a stock intake.

Anybody know where you can buy heat resistant heavy duty flex hose??

Anybody good with photoshop? I wanna mock up a coupe ideas for the graphics on the car.
