What do I do with these old items. I have an old/broken A/C compressor, Catalytic Converter plus some worn brake rotors. I prefer to not put them in the trash if there is someplace that will rebuild and/or recycle.

Suggestions?

Richard,
There's a place in Greensboro that recycles catalytic converters at a pretty fair price. (worth the drive over) Bernie has the name of the place if you want to PM him.

I've always tossed rotors in the household recycling. You can also save them up and bring them in for scrap if you have enough to make the trip worth it.

There's a place out near Rush Hour Karting (Garner/Clayton) that buys converters and other automotive cores. They pay the best prices for cats out of anyone else I've been able to find locally.

Definitely worth the drive for the cat, but probably not just for the other stuff.

American Metal & Parts Co
2212 US Highway 70 E, Garner, NC 27529-9423
(919) 772-6527 ‎

Call to confirm their hours- they are only open certain days/times to buy scrap.

Just as an FYI to everyone, if you ever have to have the cat replaced on your car (or you are removing one from a "track only" car), DO NOT let the shop keep the old one- you're just throwing money away. Sure, they'll "do you a favor" and dispose of it for you, but depending on the price of platinum and the type of cat, they're worth ~$50-200 each or more as scrap. Even old car batteries are worth ~$7 each these days for scrap value alone.

You can take them to the mixed metals recycle bin at the Durant Rd dump if you don't want to save up for a scrap run. The cat is probably more valuable in the right hands.

Thanks for the tips. I figured the Cat was worth something. I work in downtown Raleigh, so the Garner location looks like it will work out for me.
