Fyi this bike has all the options I was looking for -- ABS, heated grips, center stand, hard cases with city lids. Some S models don't have these, including the nice replica prep for sale on Craigslist now. And that took all of the other cool looking replica bikes out of contention, couldn't find one with the options I needed. So far I'm loving the torque, stability, and ease which with this thing goes through corners. Still learning the quirks of the boxer.
I wasn't quite ready to buy yet, but the original owner was just one of those perfect guys to buy a bike from ... retired psychologist with 2 Ducatis and a Triumph in the garage, wife retired as a prof from Clemson and throws pots for a retirement occupation next door to his garage full of toys. DD is a Miata. The guy has owned 3 R1100s bikes since 99, and has put over 100k miles on them. He rode the bike to the rocky mountains and back, he certainly knows these bikes! And he never even dropped it, bless his heart.
Even though he has his own motorcycle lift in his garage, the bike has been going to the BMW dealer for all maintenance, which is up to date. I just added up the accessories he added over it's 32k miles, and it's $3k in parts. The only thing it will need in the next 10k miles is an oil change and maybe some brakes. He made some good choices:
Throttlemeister cruise Motolight driving lights Sargent seat Works suspension (off the bike, in need of rebuild, stock 3k mile shocks back on) Blinky brake lights Smoke windscreen Factory hard cases Wunderlich tank bag Knee pads
