The old Celica passed inspection today, $9.10 and it's street legal again...

While installing a fresh ignition (with higher rev limit), I seem to have mucked something else up while tinkering, it isn't running worth a darn (but still passed).

I think it's the float level; I think I tweaked them too low, so I fuel starve as soon as I get onto the primary throttle circuits (we'll find out on the way home - I readjusted them in the parking lot at work).

yehaw! someone else other than me that has to mess with a carburated Toyota enginebut mine is still bone stock... who would have thought you could put 250k on a stock carburator without it leaking around the throttle shaft?

Float level was WAY off, but that didn't fix it. Turns out the new ignition changed the timing, or the distributer slipped (I think it's the former, just triggering faster). I was at 20 degrees static, and evidently, that translates to improper functioning by 3500 rpm or so.

Reset the timing to 10 degrees static, and all was well. The new ignition works, I now have a 7000 rpm rev limit, and might need more...

Got to get on the dyno for baseline pulls next week.

I got to drive it last night too; didn't redline it but it pulls well up to around six grand. I also learned that joggers that wear dark clothes tend to get out of the way of a 73 Celica that is perhaps maybe a tad bit exceeding the speed limit in a neighborhood.
