for the first time since the day I bought the silver one (3/09/04). Hope they stay that way!

Got the clutch problem fixed - it was a weak (and I mean WEAK) pressure plate. It was a new OEM clutch kit though, so apparently I just got lucky enough to receive the bad one. Tip to save yourself some time if you have a Subaru: after you bolt the engine & tranny back together, reinstall the clutch slave cylinder & step on the pedal. If it's REALLY soft, DON'T bother to bolt all the other stuff back on!

Also got new Koni inserts installed (that was a pretty fun project), along with the springs, bushings & camber bolts from the blue RS. All that's left is the alignment, and it'll be ready to go.

:cheer:

Sure, it may run, but have you ordered the custom blinging decal set worth 12 WHP?

FedEx will be bringing me a present tomorrow morning in the form a of a TRD piggyback ECU. If all goes as planned, I will have a lot more torque and hp prior to Saturday's runs at Laurens. It should be very, very interesting. - AB

Do they do ride-alongs or fun runs down there? (I'm guessing nope)

Come on now, if your motor revs past 8K "more" torque is still gong to be pretty low I would think. What 140ftlbs at the wheels maybe? I mean its a 1.8l now matter how you do the numbers. :P

Okay, we have been hearing about the piggyback ECU for 4 months now :) I will bring my street tires, so you can drive the MR2 home and we can tow the broken Celica back

From what I have seen, you are more hampered by traction than power.

Sure, I'm only making stock about 130 wheel torque bone stock. With intake and exhaust I would figure I pick up maybe 3-4 lb ft., so I figure I'm at 134 lb ft at 6800 now, but with this piggyback, I should pickup about 15 lb ft at 3500 and about 10 lb ft peak. HP wise, I should pick up a solid 10 whp across the range, which should put me at about 185 whp and 145 peak torque. Not too shabby for a car that weighs only 2300 # or so.

Sure this is not a torque monster, but a 11% pickup in torque down low will make a big difference. Only time will tell though ;) - AB

Not with the 17" wheels. At Laurinburg, I barely spun the wheels anywhere on course. 225 rubber compared to 205 is a significant upgrade. - AB

Well, hopefully we'll have a fast, open course design so you & the new monster ECM can at least give me a challenge...

So how is the grip at Laurens compared to our sites? Is it close to Laurinburg? All I know is it's supposedly really smooooth.

I'll be bringing the Pirellis, so the RS should be in 3rd gear a lot, unless the course is pretty tight. Maybe I can get used to the upshift/downshift with the new clutch by Saturday? Guess I'll have to hit all the 20mph exit ramps on the way there - oh, wait, those would actually be 70mph in reality, which would be top of 3rd gear... nevermind.

Hell, besides the start there wasn't any where to spin tires on that course. The standard Laurinburg course is not that representative of the national courses, except for the Peru Tour.

Ahh, but you forget young grasshopper. I was there the day before to do plenty of back to back testing on much different courses than what we saw on that Sunday. The car has much less wheelspin, which equates to actual traction going on :)

Laurinburg was actually very similar to Ft. Myers, you pick the year ;) - AB

Ft. Myers is the known exception to rule for courses. So you know you are set for next February ;) Now it will be interesting to see the DC or Toledo or Pro's :)

I doubt the test course you had was similar to Topeka or a Pro course. We have never set one up there that replicates 80% of the stuff we see at the national level. We are creatures of habit :)

Remember, the Laurens site is the Michellin TIRE PROVING GROUNDS! This isn't a parking lot, it's a huge piece of Michellin's test track where they and the car manufacturers develop and test their new tires for OEM contracts. It is the skid pad area, an obscenely widened 500x1500' front stretch of their road course. The asphalt is specifically designed for traction! There are no seams, dips or bumps in the entire surface (think black pool table for the gods) it is flawless! The SEDiv course last year was a full scale replica of the 2001 Nationals South course, and didn't use but ~ 1/2 the area.
Jon K. is the course designer and drives a GS Honda Civic, so I'd expect a course that includes a lot of handling manuevers with room thru the gates. I'm not at all implying that Jon would deliberately try to stack the deck (against his class competition? ), but it's only natural for a course designer to set up a course that he will enjoy running.
Weather looks GREAT! See y'all there!

No piggyback for this set of events. It came this morning, but I need a to create a wiring harness to make it legal for STS. Otherwise, I'd need to run without the ECU cover and move some stuff around, and I don't want to go through that and rush it for the weekend. It's too bad, for it look pretty:

Still going to have a lot of fun this weekend :) -AB
