Debbie and I were safe in Maxton out on the tarmac. Sanford however got slammed. Hail, wind, tornado(s). It was a mess when we got home. No damage to the car hauler or house though. (notice the priority order here  )

Missed us by about 5 miles. Luckily no damage for us. I was expecting hail damage at the very least, but lucked out.

It missed us by about 10 miles or so. We are in Elm City outside of Wilson. From some reports Wilson took a hard hit near the downtown area.

Scary stuff.

One pretty much ripped right through my neighborhood. We were really lucky and somehow I managed very little structural damage other than a fence, but a 80+ yo oak tree 10' from my house found its fate, luckily it laid to rest in just the right manner to miss any major structures. Note the other up-rooted oak tree that it fell on, there are many in my neighborhood. All of us lost many trees today but none seem to have fallen on a house so we're lucky.

Wow, Durham got pretty lucky by the sound of it. It was pretty windy, but never rained super hard, no hail or major damage, and by about 6:00 it was weirdly beautiful outside.

This is the Lowe's in Sanford. If it had been last weekend I would have been in there (I made four trips to Lowe's that weekend).

Wow! I had heard about that Lowe's in Sanford thats crazy, luckily the tornado wasn't grounding I think when it went through our neighborhood, I think it was just hopping about ripping trees up. A neighborhood down the street "Oakton" apparently took the brunt of the damage, its a very nice neighborhood where the houses start at $400K and go up from there, many very damaged house in that neighborhood. A few more pictures from my house and my next door neighbors:

Another view of the big one that went down in the back yard.
Image

The other end of that tree in my neighbors yard. You can really tell but there is another medium sized oak tree underneath it as well as a fig tree.
Image

This is what remains of what was a grand three trunk tree looks kinda lonely and pitiful now, unfortunately it will have to come down too, it is leaning precariously toward the house and is missing 1/2 of its root base.
Image

From the front yard, hey where are the tops of those two pine trees?
Image

Oh, there is one hiding in my azalea bushes
Image

And here is the other
Image

My next door neighbors saw similar results, this was one big oak, once again luckily it didn't hit anything expensive.
Image

The neighbor on the other side didn't fair any better, there are actually two large oak trees down in that mess, once again though it missed anything expensive.

I decided to go back into the Lowes my brother manages (old one) in Cary. Power had started to flicker, had I chose to head back to Goldsboro like I planned I would have been way to close I think to the tornado that missed his house by a half mile and continued onto S. Saunders street.

Prayers out to all the affected families.

glad to hear everyone is safe. Spend most of the day yesterday repairing shingles on my roof, but all under control now. It was interesting how the shingles were taken off, 2 or 3 were ripped from 3 different sides of the roof, so lot's of maneuvering to get to the damaged ones. I hate a 45 degree roof.....

We're fine here in New Bern... had one hell of a light show though as the storms past by.

REALLY wish I had a decent camera that I could have taken some pics and/or video. Having an extremely bright full moon over head, with huge storm clouds filled with lightning underneath was quite surreal and beautiful.

It was far enough away from us we weren't really that concerned about it. It stayed pretty well north and west of where we are.
