Seems like I have this hair-brained idea that I need to set up a web presence. I've got the domain name paid for and parked with GoDaddy.com. They offer a "free" hosting option, but I've looked at the control panel a couple of times and it looks like a PITA to me.

I'd be willing to pay a few bucks a month for one of their upgraded hosting services, but I just don't know if that's necessary at this point.

I'm not planning anything complicated, just a fairly simple site with a couple of pages, and the ability to post some pics of some stuff I have for sale with a brief description of each item.

Anyone have any recommendations? Anyone have any first-hand experience with GoDaddy's hosting options?????

I'm not computer illiterate, but I'm definitely behind the times when it comes to stuff like this.

Bret... I'm on GoDaddy and have overall had a real good experience. The control panel stuff at GoDaddy is not the most intuitive, but once you figure out what you don't need to worry with, it gets easier LOL.

I can say that when I started, I used their Website Tonight site builder, and it's slightly less than adequate in my opinion. It's passable for very simple sites, but not very flexible. It's been over a year since I've used it, so maybe it's been improved, I don't know. I now use Apple's iWeb for my sites, but I'm sure there are some other good cheap/free design tools for your site.

Last year I upgraded to a Linux hosted plan. Didn't really know what that was/is but customer service there was really helpful... and I ended up getting a good deal I think... @ $165 for two years. I'd recommend calling them and talk with their customer service. They'll help you figure out what you need and what you don't. They were definitely very knowledgeable, helpful, and low-pressure when I called.

We set up Malia's new business on GoDaddy hosting... I don't recall if we ended up using the Website Tonight stuff that Stacy mentions or some other tools through her host agency. Regardless, working through the GoDaddy interface was easy enough and she was up and running with _something_ within a couple hours.

Edit, per the little link on the bottom of the page, we did use WebSite Tonight. Not a "great" tool by any stretch, but did get a simple set of pages going very quickly and inexpensively.

May not be of any use if you are already locked into GoDaddy, but I use http://www.web.com, and have found it to be easy and user friendly. I change my web site regularly with pictures and clip art. No problems. Rarely need customer support, but when I have needed it all went quickly and well.
