If my 245/40/17s fit on an HS legal Mazda 3 wheel I'd honestly consider it ;)

Thats a lot of tire to squeeze on the 17x6.5s, but I know the previous owner of my 6.5" wheels crammed 245/45-16's on stock legal wheels (I'm considering it myself). Its just a question of whether you run into problems with a lower profile tire.

Jim, you can have your 'beater' back (ie the 330 ci ;) ). I'm still going to wash it and do an oil change on it to figure out what that leak is...might be PS fluid but the drops are not red (ATF).

Well, the WRX is gone and I picked this up:

Looks nice-- congrats on the new car!

If you're talking about the leak near the top of the motor on the BMW, I think some of it is definitely PS fluid. I noticed it made a bit of mess after zMax and I suspect Spratte and I may have outrun the pump a few times. There was definitely a *lot* of opposite lock involved in all of our runs. 2-year-old 500 tread wear Michelin all-seasons might not be the best choice for an autox tire. :)

That's not to say something else isn't leaking as well... :D

Jim

Congrats on the new ride!

All I need to see now is James and Matt singing "Ebony and Ivory"

That song has already been taken by a pair of semi-local autox'ers. Both driving vTak-equipped Hondas. Go figure! ;)

Jim

Jadrice and Jon? :)

Jim, the leak is dropping dark black/brown dots on the ground from around the lower dust shield (don't take offense, but I put cardboard under it in the garage :) ). When I drain the oil, instead of using the trap door, I'll probably remove the full dust shield to get a better look. Any oil preference?

Congratulations on the new ride James. Probably the best bet was to get rid of the car, considering you now have an unknown issue that likely will rear it's head again. My STi is on the way out after this season too. By that point, I might have 5500 miles on it... - AB

Dude, I'm totally offended now! That is definitely the last time I lend you one of my beaters!

I haven't noticed any spots where it was parked but I've only had it a few weeks. And before zMax, I hadn't even put 100 miles on it yet so I really have no history on the thing. It's also possible that Spratte and I might have loosened up a few things besides the power steering pump. Before lending it to you, the only thing I had done to it was check the air pressure and make sure it had enough oil in it for a few runs. Another friend of mine ran the car the very next day at an event in Wilmington (I had had enough all-season fun and drove Gwen's Mini) so it hasn't led the easiest life since I've had it. But I guess that's why it's a beater... :D

The only thing I'm sure about the car is that I can't shift it for sh$t from 1 to 2. The first thing to go when I get it back is remove that stupid clutch delay valve. I don't know what they were thinking with that thing.

I don't have much of an oil preference for an N/A street car. Anything compatible with the manufacturer's specs is cool with me.

Jim
