Hey guys…you know how we do Dent Day…well, now it’s time for Wheel Day. I recently had the pleasure of talking with Michelle from Prince Wheel Service about some work I need done to the Mini wheels. I asked her if she’d like to do something like we do with Dent Day and she thought it would be a great idea. So here are the details…

When: Feb 12th (9am-6pm)
Who: anyone...just reply to this thread with name, slots and brief description of work to be done
Where: Import Motor Werks (formerly MPowered Automotive)
What:
Wheel Day with Michelle from Prince Wheel Services (919-539-6857)

Cost for paint and curb rash repair:
1 wheel = $75 minimum
Additional wheels = $20-$50 depending on damage and will be assessed onsite
Note: we aren’t talking full restores here. She’s a mobile unit and will repair the wheels on the car, but she’s not gonna take it down to metal and refinish the entire wheel. If you’ve got some curb rash or some paint chips, this is your ticket!

Cost for wheel straightening:
$95-$125 per wheel depending on how bad it’s bent
Note: wheels have to be off the car with no tires. Bring’m that way or talk to Jordan about mount/dismount. That’s a separate deal to the wheel repair.

CASH ONLY!!!

Michelle thinks she can do about 12 wheels in a day (give or take a wheel based on how bad they are). So I’m going to sign people up for 45min slots per wheel starting at 9am.

9am -
9:45 -
10:30 -
11:15 -
12:00 -
12: 45 -
1:30 -
2:15 -
3:00 -
3:45 -
4:30 -
5:15 -

Please reply to this thread with your name, the slots you want (1per wheel) and a brief description of what needs to be done. Plan on showing up at least 20mins early and don’t get all huffy if you have to wait around a bit…it’s worth the cost savings.

If I have 4 wheels (no tires on them) stripped, bondo-ed curb rash, and sanded, can she paint them some sort of gun metal for me?

Man, maybe I can knock out wheel painting, alignment, and v710 (if TR/DT has them) mount in one day :).

Umm, didn't you pick the weekend of Lemons? Aren't you supposed to be driving in Magnum?

I just picked up a set of Kosei K1-TS off of Craigslist and one of them is bent. The bead still holds, but it's bent.

Is it worth it to get it repaired if I'm going to be going to the track with these wheels considering that I can get a new one from Tire Rack for 148 shipped?

You can probably find lots of them for less than that used.

But no, I won't pay more than 50% the cost of wheel in repair if they are that cheap new. They are LP cast aluminum and repairing them probably renders them weaker than they began.

I don't think Chris is the wheel expert, and I don't think he's got a direct hotline to the wheel repair place.

But, I think basic common sense says that if it's gonna cost $95-125 just to get the wheel straightened (i.e. doesn't include refinishing), then you're probably better off just buying a brand new wheel for $148.

My 0.02 anyway........

Why not just spray-bomb them yourself???

Sounds like you've got the hard part done already- why pay $75 for the first wheel plus $20 for each additional if you can just buy 2 $7 cans of spray paint and be done with it???

UPDATE: Due to my neglegent scheduling skills (who would know I'm a Project Manager by trade) I've made some changes.

When: Feb 12th (9am-6pm)
Where: Import Motor Werks (formerly MPowered Automotive)

Mark is hosting a tech day on the 12th so there's no way we could fit both in the same day. Jordan from Import Motor Werks agree to host. He actually uses Michelle quite often so he can be a good reference if you need one.

Since I asked, I found some resources and made the same decision :). I just need to be more patient with spraying them than I was with my Koni insert strut housings :).
