Same power as the e46 M3 and same weight as the e46 M3, worse gearing than the e46 M3 (3.15 vs 3.64).

I wonder how much more rubber will fit on it compared to an E46 M3.

LSD is a weird hybrid TORSEN style with a viscous coupling like speed sensing unit in it.

Seems an AS underdog to me.

Rodney has to like this part as much as me:

Quote:
It also features a metal roof panel which saves about 35 lbs (15kg) compared to BMW 1 Series models equipped with a moonroof. The 2011 BMW 1 Series M Coupe, constructed as one of BMW’s most performance-oriented vehicles in recent years, will not be offered with a moonroof. This weight savings - at the tallest point of the vehicle - provides a corresponding drop in the center of gravity, which contributes to improved driving dynamics. It also helps maximize head room (or helmet room, as the case may be).

that's why i got my brand new mini from the dealer in charleston, they had several w/o the heavy and expensive sunroof. every single car at the raleigh location had it.

I was off guessing wheel widths...9" front and 10" rears is the actual.

It's lighter than an E46 M3 btw, and most likely "340hp" is more similar to the 135's "300" (i.e. underrated), but it definitely has a HUGE power under the curve advantage compared to the E46 M3. I think it will be significantly quicker on an autox course than the E46.

I saw:

E46 M3 at 1,549 kg. = 3,415 lbs.

E92 M3 at 1,680 kg. = 3,704 lbs.

E82 1M at 1,570 kg. = 3,461 lbs.

And the E46 M3 was 333chp, and this article says 335chp one place and 340chp an other.

But yes, with those very small turbos, it gets a lot of torque a lot earlier than the s54 I suppose.

My point was the perf stats are in the ballpark of the e46 m3 and the e46 M3 is a B stock underdog.

Here's what the official spec released today says:

The new 1 Series M Coupe weighs in at 1,495kg DIN (3,296 lbs, preliminary)

Ok well that's a pretty big difference :).

You thinking of buying one Chuck? Last time I was critical of a car, Michael bought one the next day :).

Max torque at 1500 rpm is nice. Kinda low-revving for an M, but not a big deal.

19 x9 and 19 x 10 A6s are a very expensive way to enjoy autocross, especially given the presumption that they wear out at a similar rate to other like-weight BMWs.

I think I'll pass, thanks, and let someone else with $50k+ and a bajillion dollar tire budget drive it.

Nope. No plans for one.

Not much different than the insane price/tire at 18". I'm interested what if any additional camber adjustment is available. I think the standard 1 has the pins like the E90, but perhaps there is more std neg camber before the adjustment range. Otherwise, it's going to be the same old story with the A6 edges as you said.

Given the other thread gloom and doom (unfortunately with decent basis for being correct even though we certainly hope not  ) shouldn't you guys be dreaming about extremely high fuel mileage cheap cars that will last forever and "race cars" that can be towed behind Fiesta's and Fits?

well Dick at least my friend VK didn't call you a dipstick........

WTF, do i have a target on my back? oh,........ wait, ....... yes maybe i do.........

a 1 Series, per my favorite adviser in all things BMW, is a really small car. i'm really starting to think i am an old fat ass funfer kinda guy these days.

not that i won't be 1M shopping some day. i like the premise and the body style is steadily growing on me. but autoX, well..........

and really VK, how many times a year do you really think i checked the oil in my vehicles before i met you anyway? i know women that check their oil more often than i did Dude. i'm the hired help. i care not to bother with such menial taskology. 8)

He probably hadn't seen my silly post yet . . .

I'm not allowed to "want" any BMW let alone buy one. My wife cannot stand the grill. She comes up with a variety of reasons not to buy any expensive car I'm interested in for either her or me with the exception of a Mustang every 10 years on average. This is the woman I met at a Lotus Club meeting whose primary criteria for dating/marrying at the time were 1) own a Lotus and 2) have a Masters degree since she has both. :) :) I had just purchased a Lotus when we started dating and finished a Masters before we got married.

Ha, I had already purchased it, but was keeping it a secret.

With these specs, weight, and price more Mustangs should be purchased.
