Her rates could have increased by now because you know, 'Seasons' change.

Sorry James, I just couldn't resist. I mean c'mon, someone had to know naming their child that would have 'make fun of my name' written all over it.

Laura and I both used Season Atkinson for our run-ins with radar. Flat rate, for speeding tickets at least, included fine, court and her fee. If she doesn't get the fine reduced she loses her share of the payment and/or eats the fine. Mailed a check and a form to her then a month or so later I got a letter saying I got a 9 under PJC. (My ticket was pretty significant so I'm happy I got that)

For Laura it was a no-brainer since Season had lunch with the cop/judge/da a few days before. I was pretty low effort at the time.

both of us were ticketed in Wake co.

Was this in the 6 inch fury?

I remember Les telling me about talking his way out of a ticket because he was in a miata and "there was no way I was going that fast". I don't believe the officer knew about the SC under the hood at the time.

Indeed I did, I did not mention the 13 psi of boost, I didn't feel that was something he needed to know. :D

Big recommendation from me for Kenny Steinberg in Durham. He helped me out on a ticket I picked up on the way to VIR a few years back. He's actually an old frat buddy of a good friend of mine, and a great guy.

I *crossesfingers* "haven't had a ticket in years" but I still keep his number in my cellphone just in case: 919-479-5575. Looks like he even has a website now -- http://www.kennethjsteinberglaw.com

I got busted in downtown Raleigh by a sheriff, so don't know if I can use a Durham lawyer. Thanks for the recommendation thought....

I got poped a long time ago for exceeding a safe speed to wit a sharp curve. I came around a cloverleaf at crabtree valley faster than the officer could. I did not realize he was behind me at the time. This was in my old Datsun 510 with suspension mods and Pheonix 3011 tires.

Kenny works a number of counties around here. I got busted the other side of Roxboro, almost as far as VIR, and he went up there for me. I'm sure he'd recommend someone if he doesn't work the place you got ticketed.

I'm thinking something like this won't require a lawyer to go anywhere... a simple phone call from them to the DA or ADA more than likely. I'm with others... I'd try to talk to an ADA before your court date. If it were just a speeding ticket, I'd say just show up at the court date and take a reduction, but this sounds a little different, even without supporting evidence.

Good thing about being Wake county... the court's dockets are so full that the DA & ADA will usually plea down to just a fine, just to save those few minutes needed to process you through on the court day. You'll have to pay the fine anyway (with or without a lawyer). Asking the DA or ADA ahead of time might save you the lawyer fees though.

Rodney,

I am pretty sure that Wake has ADA down at the traffic court area during certain times of the day, so you can drop in and see what they might offer prior to your scheduled court date.

I went in a few months ago and it was a few days prior to the court date for a ticket for Tina. I went in just to ask a question and didn't realize that if Tina had been with me that we could have handled the entire thing in advance and with no wait.

Just have your paperwork with you.

Richard

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

FWIW, after doing it both ways in the past, I'm now of the opinion that it's always worth a lawyer. If my tempting fate in this thread gets me my first ticket in many years, I won't hesitate to go the lawyer route.

Oddly enough, the fastest I've blown past a police car ("you sucked my doors off") I didn't even get a ticket.

Looks like I'm going to have to call the ADA and go from there. I haven't received even 1 lawyer letter. Interesting....
