so i had to go to the dealer today for some warranty work and i picked up a loaner. 2011 silver 3 series.

i jump in the loaner after my SA brought it up for me and i motor off down I-40 to Cary. i'm thinking to myself that it seems to accelerate a little differently than the other 335's i've driven as loaners. never thought about it twice however as it is a rocket.

i hang out at Mark's place (Performance Chassis...Club Sponsor) for awhile and as i'm walking back to the car i see this weird access panel in the left rear quarter panel. i pop it off to reveal two valves. i give out a resounding WTF, and call Mark over to look at these things. fill valve & drain valve? DOH

i look at the trunk lid and......... 335d.

i was driving a diesel and never knew the difference. driving around town so far today i'm getting 32 mpg. gobs and gobs of low end torque and compared to a 335i much more linear power delivery.

i'm kind of embarrassed actually as i have owned a diesel pick-up since 2003. i should have known better but this thing is quiet.

It's a shame they don't make it with a manual. It sounds like a sweet car.

Oh, they make it with a manual, just not for us dumbass americans.

IIRC, the 1 series diesel smoked (get it) the other gas-engined models in 0-60 times, etc (not sure if that included the 135)

they are fantastic cars. Steve you should drive a x5 with the diesel motor, very cool having that much torque.

I'm almost positive that there was a customer at Schaeffer with a manual 335d. Maybe you can get it through European delivery? Either way, I agree that they are awesome cars.

My friends E series Desiel is about as quiet as they come, plus he's getting out standing mileage. They have come a long ways.
