That's what I did on the M3. There was no way I was going 15k b/c the oil was pretty dark around that point.
You'll find that color of oil has *no* bearing on its lubricating properties nor age.

Pennzoil Platinum can be very dark in as little as a few hundred miles but it returns amazing UOAs regardless.

However with an s54 M3, I'd probably change it a lot earlier than 15k myself since those engines are hard on oil. 10w60! ;).

When doing it by hand (without a machine), sometimes people trick themselves into using a polishing compound that's more aggressive than it needs to be, hoping it will be "faster." That usually just makes things worse.
