I've been looking at AAA coverage and don't see where it would be of any benefit to me regarding my truck and trailer.

I'm sure there are other options out there, but nothing jumps out at me in a google search. What do some of you other towers do for roadside assistance?

TIA

In instances where your car is disabled while towing a trailer, service will be provided for the trailer at your expense and will be payable to the service facility at the time of service. Plus/RV service extends coverage to include travel trailers with sleeping accommodations used for the purpose of camping.

Looks like their coverage would cover your tow vehicle but towing the trailer would be at your expense. This could come in handy- but you're at the mercy of the AAA contractor as far as cost to move your trailer. I could see it being useful if you had a "simple" breakdown that could be easily fixed, then just have them tow the truck, get it fixed and then drive back to the trailer, hook up and go........ ????

The only other thing I can think of is to put some bunks in your car trailer, call it a camper, and get the AAA PLUS or RV coverage- it looks like you'd be covered there. ;)

I don't know of any Roadside coverage that specifically does cover a car and car trailer- but I'm far from an expert in this sort of thing.

When the axle on our single axle trailer broke near Little Rock in about 1994, AAA did cover the tow but only because at the time we had no previous tows for anything so it was "courtesy" to a long time good customer.

Well, certainly not the same as a car trailer, but when I used AAA to get my vette home from Danville last year, the tow truck driver had no problem attaching the tire trailer to the back of the tow truck and towing it back as well. He didn't ask for it, but I gave an extra $20 tip. I'm not sure, but maybe the same could be arranged for a car trailer?

Having a recent experience (3 weeks ago) just outside of Danville VA, I can safely state that the "official policy" for the AAA roadside assistance is just for the tow vehicle. I had not heard of the RV package until just a moment ago and will definitely investigate.
After breaking down when we stopped for supper, we asked the tow truck driver to flat tow our truck a few hundred feet to a place where we could drop the trailer and then had our truck taken to our Raleigh driveway where it was repaired. The trailer was then rescued. The interesting twist to this is that there is only room in most tow trucks for a single passenger and we were traveling with 3 adults and a large dog. Pete, my wife Jeanne, and the dog got to wait by the roadside while I rode home with the tow truck and got my wife's car to pick them up. We managed to arrive home by 2:00 AM.
For the want of a starter the truck was dead.
Once before I had an wheel shear off our travel trailer along I40 west of Winston-Salem and had to leave the trailer along the highway because AAA did not offer trailer service.

Charlie-

be sure to read the details VERY carefully. It sounds to me like they are specifically trying to EXCLUDE any trailer besides camper trailers. I think it would be a really hard sell to get the driver to cover an open car trailer as a camper. An enclosed car trailer *MIGHT* be able to squeek by if the driver was open to bending the rules- but I would not count on it.

Our trailer with race car tow should not be considered "likely" in any way. The combo only weighs about 2500 lbs and barely fit (trailer tires on load bed flanges).

Actually I was thinking of the RV insurance just for the camping trailer (my other weekend adventures). My "race cars" are of such little value it doesn't disturb me too much to leave one by the side of the road for a later rescue. Plus, when I'm towing the race car there is usually only the driver and possibly a single passenger. When I'm towing the camper, there is a truck full, and the tow truck would leave them standing on the roadside. This is more about getting everyone home safely than worrying that the trailer gets left. Admittedly it would be a big inconvenience if the trailer or truck broke down at Roebling.

when my enclosed trailer lost an axle last year it was not covered by AAA. On the other hand though the Trailer/RV place that did the repair towed it in for me at little extra cost.

I have Allstate Auto club coverage. They have an RV package that includes towing. It's been great. We've used in a few times. They even paid the $450 tow bill on one of Donnie's Freightliner rigs when it busted a fuel line and dumped about 70 - 80 gallons of diesel all over the place. They towed Karl & I about 45 miles. It's also good for a pick-up and trailer.
