For the first time ever, Carroll Shelby and Jack Roush met with Ford Motor Company in order to design and produce a new car based on the 2011 Mustang and inspired by the SR-71 “Blackbird,” the long-range reconnaissance USAF aircraft built by Lockheed Martin. The SR-71 Mustang (S for Shelby, R for Roush) is currently being built at the Roush plant in Livonia, Michigan, with the participation and input of all parties involved. The new vehicle will carry the impressive 5.0-lite Ti-VCT V8 engine with a 2.3-liter Whipple Twin Screw Supercharger with Ford Racing calibration and Roush intake, a Ford Racing Handling Pack and tuned exhaust and tips, SVT Track Pack wheels in custom paint (19-inch in front, 20-inch in rear) and a new glass roof with unique graphic treatment. Also, the car will carry a non-production matte and silver exterior paint treatment with SR-71 cues as well as custom Recaro race seats featuring signatures of Jack Roush and Carroll Shelby. Further improvements for the interior include a new racing steering wheel, removed rear seat, Ford Racing performance gauge cluster, a modified navigation screen, roll cage custom badging, sill plates and floor mats.
