to an extent you are correct - then again, there's a certain oil company creating a lot of BUZZ right now, and i don't think they'll sell any more product because of it.

"BUZZ" sells product. realistically the demographics of the two brands are on opposite ends of the spectrum. i don't think Mini actually thinks they will be stealing prospective Porsche buyers.

it is a completely ridiculous ad campaign and i believe that is Mini's plan anyway. i think it is marketing genius.

Speak for yourself :-( I agree with your assessment on Buzz, which doesn't mean it isn't fun to speculate on the outcome. They're going for the enormous demographic of people who want to make fun of Porsche drivers.

sorry, i might have sounded harsh. obviously Mini will do what they need to do to finish first if they have to go so far as to cheat. again, i think it is brilliant. stupid, but brilliant.

I used the word genius on another forum. This will not bring a single PCar owner over but will bring new mini owners and, more importantly repeat mini buyers. This is the classic David and Goliath. The Davids of the world love it, the Goliaths are pissed but can't win.

I would still love to see a "Built to the Hilt" Porsche show up and crush them. If asked why they didn't follow the "rules" Porsche simply responds with "this is how we race".

In any case, the more annoying Mini gets with the advertizing the more I admire Porsche's original answer.

It would be interesting to monitor responses to this issue and correlate the hp of the car they drive. I have my theories.

Actually I don't think Mini would rig the race. I think if they did race (and Porsche would win), I think the Mini spin would be "Oh well. But we did get 90% of thefun for 50% of the price" or something like that. Someone pointed out earlier that they could show how many other things you could buy in addition to the Mini to equal the price of the Porsche.

I also agree on the Buzz factor. And I also agree that this is not going to sway those about to buy a Porsche, but might sway those who were considering a Mini. I however thing Mini has milked this about as far as it can go. Anything more would have the opposite effect.

And Cline, I drive a 100 HP car (but am building a 250+ HP light weight car). And I am an unapologetic Porsche fan. So I don't know where I fit into your theory. :D

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

^^ok, now that's gonna bring out a racer...i'm sure that with the vast quantity of porsche-douches out there, someone will not be able to contain his ego and accept the race.

I'm sure MINI is counting on it. Hey, Porsche had their chance to find the best driver, and they refused so what's MINI supposed to do :-)

Heck, I would do it. And I don't even consider myself a "Porsche-douche". ;)

it's a sliding scale...

it goes from partial douche just-a-regular-guy-that-owns-a-porsche on one side, to sparco-around-your-waste-shirt-off-$500-sunglasses-i'm-better-than-you full on mega douche.
