Rodney, good deal on an 8GB nano on woot today, only 89.99 and you don't have to have a pink one. Its a refurb, but do you care?

I think this says it all:

Operating temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)

I ran this beast most of last year w/ no issues from the heat, but now I am. I'm thinking vibrations have gotten the best of it and heat is now a factor from an expansion standpoint.

Thanks for the pointer from woot.com. I'll give that a look.

If I'm telling you something you already know, sorry, but recognize that the woot.com deal is good for today only. Thats sort of how they work. One deal per day.

I'd like to know how to open this. There are no seams on the side, so everything has to slid out of the end of the case. There are 2 small flanges on the end of the case that hold everything in. I'm clueless as to how to get to the inside. Even if I was to get it out, I have no way to test what is bad, I'm just not that talented to diagnose electrical stuff...

If you're still interested in trying to repair it, best bet is to search on youtube for ipod nano repair instructions - based on my recent experience with my daughter's Ipod Touch, I'm sure there's plenty of useful video instuctions out there. BTW, I have the plastic tools needed for opening an ipod touch, not sure if they're the same as needed for a nano, but if so, you're welcome to borrow them.

In my case, one of my dogs recently bit into my daughter's ipod touch, cracking the screen. In looking over the unit, it was not obvious how to get it apart, but a quick search on youtube came up with lots of videos showing how it's done. In short, I was able to do the repair myself with a $25 screen kit from eBay.

What he said, and the Nano is a nice option. Just take it inside and don't leave it in the car!

The Apple Store online has refurb'ed 8G nanos for $99 (so $10 more than the woot.com deal) and refurb'ed 8G Touches for $149, FWIW.

If the nano is "enough", it's a good deal. If you want a few apps (like Pandora!), the Touch is also a very good deal, IMHO.

Pandora isn't worth much in the car unless its on an iPhone.

Agreed about the $99 at the apple store, although the shipping is more expensive too. The woot deal is probably $15 cheaper overall.

Well, true enough on Pandora in the car. But I live in the sticks and even though I have an iPhone, thanks to ATT Pandora STILL isn't worth much in the car. *sigh* I wasn't really referring to it in the car, anyway...I use iPods all over the house. :)

And yeah, I know woot.com is cheaper. Just pointing out the other option for anyone who finds this in a day or two and thinks "oh crap, I missed it!" Not sure everyone knows Apple.com has a refurb store, too.

I actually ordered an 8G Touch just to have another one. I have a disease.
