No. The most surprising thing is that only 25% admitted to talking on the phone, adjusting radio/MP3 player. That figure should be closer to 100%. How many people pull over to adjust their radio or ipod.

I'll admit to that as well as talking on the phone, although I limit the phone talking. It just amazes me that people read, text, play musical instruments, watch Movies and "drive". I wish instead of a light rail they would make a highway for people who do all these things and let them crash into each other and let Darwin take its course.

You know - last time I had a motorcycle you could get a pretty big insurance discount by taking the Motorcycle Safety Foundation courses.

Why couldn't car insurance companies follow this model?

This seems really relevant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fy8LJx71_9o#t=51s

Top Gear segment about the Finnish system. Also Mika Hakkinen.

Yes! That is totally relevant. We really do need to have much stricter testing and enforcement of good practices for drivers. Just about any time I drive anywhere, I see someone doing something that should be grounds for having their license revoked. People who can't ignore their cell phone, use turn signals, follow at a safe distance, stop for stop signs, etc need to be taking public transit or a taxi.

As for separate Darwin routes, I totally sympathize, but good luck getting political support! :)

I say we should take the opposite approach, and go at this problem using a Libertarian and Tea Party point of view. Let's reduce the size of government by getting rid of driver's licenses, driving instruction, and traffic laws. Right now the federal government is infringing upon our right to drive where, when when and at what speed we want. Imagine not getting speeding tickets, and not being taxed to pay for expensive stop signs and stop lights!

I consider myself a Libertarian, but I do believe there should be laws to protect others from harming me. Texting while in the car is more dangerous than a loaded gun. I really believe the world would be a safer place if the police went to completely unmarked cars with tinted windows and started handing out tickets for that and stopped giving tickets for a 66 in a 55 on a road that would be safe at 80.

The inspection system is a JOKE. Check the OBD to see if my gas cap is loose and never look at the brakes. Again, my stealthy storm troopers could impound an unsafe car.

While I am ranting, our stupid pollution laws that do not allow us to have the diesels they do in Europe.

When I am king of the US we will pull all troops out of the middle east and us that money to become completely energy self reliant. No Oil imported and we will ramp up the bio diesel.

Thank you for your support, campaign contributions can be sent by cash or any other untraceable security.

Don't forget to get rid of federal and state highway funding/building/repair, the FDA (who needs drug and medical device safety), FAA, Military (remember the second amendment - firearms are so that we can have self regulated militias), Border Patrol, Fire departments, building inspections, local police (see second amendment),CDC (epidemics are a good way to keep population under control), Social Security (the Stock Market is so much more reliable), Medicare (old folks live too long anyway these days), the EPA (who really needs clean air, water), the SEC (the great depression was such a great thing . . . ask your parents/grandparents), the Fed Reserve (bankers always take care of their customers first, Customs, FCC (first come first served for all frequencies every day everywhere would be such fun), the Patent Office (who need intellectual property rights . . . justa as China), CPSC (who cares about kid safety), Civil courts (fight it out), etc.

As I look at the list I see lots of areas for improvement and none that should be abolished.

You are joking right? I don't consider myself a Libertarian, but I appreciate some of the views. However, the above suggestion is just going to replicate third world driving conditions which would not be improvement. However Mad Max style road trips might be fun for awhile. ;)

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

I might be very much uninformed here, but I was under the impression that the problem with lack of diesel vehicals here in the US was the issues with our high sulfer diesel. Wasn't it just within the past year or so that new regulations resulted in new low sulfer diesels specs for the US that exceed European standards? Point being that this SHOULD result in more European diesels showing up at this point.

I thought that the problem was the fact that US isn't really setup for diesel and that the price per gallon (in the US) doesn't quite make it work.

I am really not wanting to insult anyone here. And like I say, I can see the benefit of some Libertarian positions. But sometimes when someone takes some Libertarian ideas and runs with them, it's hard to tell if they are serious or joking. Of course, that is why I love Libertarians... Crazy or genius, sometimes it's hard to tell!
