Maybe. They haven't exactly figured out the details yet (you know, where they will race, or even on what piece of land they plan on BUILDING a race track in 2 years).

I saw that yesterday. I think it's great news and one thing they do have in Texas is space. Let's hope it becomes a reality.

I went to the Dallas GP way many years ago. Terrible course, HOTTER than Saudi Arabia and no fun. Assuming that Bernie will force them to build a real track like the other new ones.

I still think it should have gone to Indy with the venue there and the history but better Austin than no where. Question now is who loses theirs?

Watch them hold it in july. That would be fun.

I bet it will be a street circuit.

It's supposed to be an all new purpose built track. My concerns are...

* Hot place to have a race. Hopefully they will pick a suitable time of the year.
* Most new F1 tracks are boring, boring, boring. With my limited knowledge of the Austin area (was there when I was a teen), I don't remember much in the way of elevation changes, so I predict a flat and boring track.
* I wonder who has the deep pockets to finance this type of venture.

At least they are not screwing up a classic US track by bringing it up to F1 specs.

There darn well better not be any public funding. That would be socialism and we know how much Texans hate socialism. (Except for paying for oil company screwups)

In the summer it is not unusual for it to be 90 at night.

Bahrain isn't exactly frigid

Some of the tracks have nice amenities, but they don't have the history or tradition of the old tracks. They have to be safety sanitized. They could not build SPA or Monza or the old Nurburgring any more. It happens all over NASCRAP has gotten rid of most of its old character laden tracks and replaced them with the cookie cutter tracks. Most new RR courses don't have much character.

Oh well progress.......

That is true and I have no doubt that the temps at that race would be higher. But... I suspect the majority of those who attend that race are used to the conditions. While an F1 race here in the US is going to draw from a larger area and frankly they could have picked a cooler location. But then again nobody is saying the race going to be in the middle of August. :)

But most likely would be near either Canada (so no Feb/March/April) or Brazil so they aren't traversing the globe multiple times.

Should be fun anyway

^^^ The Japanese GP is in October and I can't remember when the Singapore GP is. They already waste a bunch of time/money traveling all over the place anyways.

The land has already been bought so this deal has been going on for a while.

Also, look forward to yet another tilkedrome. Hopefully it'll be an accident like Turkey so we can get a decent race out of it.

Looks to be another Tilke designed track (not good). Financing is supposed to be in place (USF1 said the same thing). I don't have high hopes that this will happen. I will believe it when I see it.
