Funny you should ask. The BMWcca is asking THSCC to support them again in another SS. Stay tuned, details will be released as I hear them. Look for something in a few months.

Less "support" and more like "loaning equipment", but I digress.

I have thrown my hat in again as course chief for the event this year, and I (as a BMWCCA member) will be asking THSCC to loan equipment. I will also be asking THSCC members for help running the event.

Dates not set yet but the plan is to book the first weekend we can find at Sanford in late summer which does not conflict with anything else. So maybe early August?

FYI, SUVs will be specifically disallowed at the event, so make sure your friend's kid has a real car to use :)

Crazy story. Thinking about it, the father is at least half responsible for letting the kid turn on the car without knowing how a clutch works. Its really easy to turn the key too far and turn on the engine, and with the car in gear it just shot through the garage door. Since the article states the kid didn't know how to drive a stick, he didn't know of the consequences.

The worst part is he is an "automotive journalist" and didn't teach his kid about cars. and hey even my $1500 Miata won't start w/o the clutch engaged. I think he should hire a lawyer and sue Porsch for having a car that unintentionally accellerated.

Per streetsurvival.org....

"What is the minimum and maximum age a student can be to participate in a Tire Rack Street Survival® school?
Licensed or permitted drivers, ages 16 to 21 are allowed in the program."

The State of North Carolina issues permits to 15 year olds that have successfully completed a Public / Private School Driver Education Course.

On a serious note. Street Survival is a great program and you shouldn't pass it up.

I would also recommend the BMW Teen Driver program at the Spartenburg facility. More dollars, but it's a brand new 3 series and truly professional instructors on a state of the art track,
