This past weekend, Bryan and I went to the Lincoln ProSolo. We ran his Corvette (the STi is getting all of the new parts on it this coming weekend). Anyway, a late add to the SS field was Randy and Thomas Petschauer in Randy's GT3.

Saturday arrives and Super Stock works the 1st heat. We start up the Corvette to tool it around the paddock area just to get it warmed up a bit. We see Randy and Thomas fiddling with some last minute things in their paddock area (Randy is super anal, yet doesn't seem really organized, so he does everything last minute). We grid the car and wait. The group just ahead of us is moving into the stage lanes and we're given the 5 minutes to go signal. Randy and Thomas haven't shown up yet.

With about 3 minutes to entering grid, an announcement for Thomas Petschauer to bring his brother's wallet to the site security gate gets announced. This happens about 3 times. Randy and Thomas never show.

The second set of runs comes in the afternoon and this time the brothers Petschauer show up. We get the following story from Randy:

"I went offsite to burn off some gas and in a 35mph zone, doing 30, I dodge a puddle. A Nebraska state trooper sees this and pulls me over for reckless driving. I didn't have my wallet with me, but asked why he pulled me over, for I wasn't speeding. The police officer said I was being belligerent and arrested me and impounded the car."

Now, the idea of trying to "burn off some gas" when you need to be in grid already is retarded, but I am betting things didn't happen exactly the way he stated  The officer took him to the front gate to have his brother drive behind in the tow vehicle and bring his wallet to central booking. He got bailed out and the car was released from impound in time to make Saturday afternoon runs.

I nearly pissed my pants when he told us. :P

For Saturday afternoon runs, Randy makes his runs (one side that was competitive with Matthew Braun) and was dirty on the other side. He takes it to 2nd driver grid where they feverishly re-align the car in grid with about 5 minutes until Thomas drives

Sunday comes and we're again warming up the car driving 5mph in the paddock and we see Thomas and Randy furiously working on the car. We are now waiting in grid and the GT3 hasn't shown up. Randy was a lot faster than Thomas on Saturday, so he is due in the 4th grid spot. We're called up to stage and Randy never shows up. I make my runs (I only got one slow clean run on the left side due to cones/redlights) and bring it to 2nd driver grid. Randy and Thomas are waiting there with the GT3. Apparently, they "lost track of time" and showed up about 3 minutes after SS started running, and they wouldn't let him run. :?

I guess the moral of the story is to be prepared and not get arrested :D

If you chose to cross post any of this, you'll need to do so without any references to me. Thanks - AB

Bwaaaaahaahahahahahaaaaaa.

You don't get taken to central booking and have your car impounded for dodging a puddle at 35MPH in a 30 zone. I'm not even sure you'd get that for doing burnouts trying to heat up your tires. I dunno, maybe an idiot LEO, stickered up car, burnouts, and if he mouthed off? Surely he wouldn't mouth off. Wow.

Agreed. I bet he was haulin' arse around there, weaving back and forth and when pulled over without his wallet, gave the cop a lot of crap. :) - AB

Tire warming? How much gas can you burn off with a few minutes of 30 mph driving (assuming a STREET Legal modern car  )

He was tire warming for sure. You can't get rid of enough gas that way to matter.

Idiocy is what it was.
