Through the 28th AAA will take used car batteries in and give you a $1 per. I just dropped off 5. Not sure which locations but a call to AAA should answer that.

One note, you must be a AAA member.

I have a smaller motorcycle battery I need to get rid of as well if someone has a membership they would like to use for me.

According to Earth911.com, Walmart, Sams, Firestone, and Advance Auto take them. Don't know if there may be any conditions such as "only when you buy a new one", but thought I'd put that out there.

Chatham and Orange County residents (at least) can, of course, just take them to their recycling centers.

For Wake County folks, the dump in Apex takes them as well....but no $1 for you.

With the price of lead being up again, it shouldn't be too hard to get rid of old batteries.

I know the metal recycling places around town buy them for ~$3-5 each, but it's probably not worth a special trip for just one or two batteries. If you just want to get rid of them, post them up for FREE on Craigslist, and tell people that you will put them out by the end of your driveway, (or whatever works for you) and I'm fairly sure someone will come by and pick them up for you.

Same thing holds true for basically ANY old scrap metal, prices are up again so people are looking high and low for scrap to sell.

I wonder if AA takes batteries too?

Maybe empty liquor bottles, I've got a bunch if they do.
