I'm just wondering if there's a safe, paved place, perhaps a park, to ride a bike for exercise in the Durham area. We're in the country, but our road is very narrow with no shoulders. I'm riding these country Bahama roads now, but boy, can it be scary! Thanx

American Tabacco Trail....it goes from right near Tylers/Mellow Mushroom in downtown (how nice :) ) to the Kroger at the intersection of 54 and Fayetteville. Paved the whole time and separate from the roads. Lots of people on it all the time (ie safe). Hair over 6 miles from start to finish. you can park under the 147 overpass at the downtown section or in the Kroger lot on the other end.

I live right off the trail and my wife and I bike it a few times a week.

There is the tobacco trail. I think it is paved from the Durham Bulls stadium to roughly Southpoint. That might be a bit south for you though.

From what I've seen it is pretty well traveled on the weekends. Still waiting for my company to move to downtown Durham, I can pick the trail up about 2 blocks from my house.

Thanks, guys. That's a good start.
