I know a guy who is a service advisor at Fred Anderson Toyota. He took the following picture there - this was taken off a customer vehicle, as you see it in the photo.

Wow. That is downright scary. - AB

No, it's awesome! Imagine having that kind of technological edge when you encounter a really tight slalom: Brake-brake-brake, hands off wheel, count to two, gas-gas-gas. Nothing could be easier!

There is an equation around somewhere that allows you to define the width of your car and the grip in g's. Time between cones is then the same for any cone spacing (assuming you drive at the limit). Assuming 1.4g's for my formula ford the time is 0.9 seconds as I recall. It is "independent of cone spacing".

hmmnmmn, this one appears to be of the GOP ilk. http://issa.house.gov/

i love the new CBS News. apparently being at the bottom of the stack has caused them to stir some mess in the vein of FauxNews. i can now catch snippets of useful rhetoric while cooking dinner.

it seems Representative Issa (R)CA wants heads to roll at Toyota also, even though the Toyota Corporation is the largest lobbyist among all foreign car manufacturers. and apparently Rep Issa has actually sold an anti-theft product to Toyota for use in their vehicles.

now this is entertainment.

Good grief I wish the politicians would stay the hell out of this. I really fear the precedent this situation might set about how much control the fed thinks it has over industry.

I think the standard-operating-procedures of the NTSB and the press will yield the needed results. Massive recall, lots of privately directed analysis, Toyota gets a HUGE black eye and suffers at the bottom line a LOT for this. Public becomes more savvy. Other automakers see the profit fallout and recognize the importance of extensive qualification and testing and transparency of processes to cusomers.

So what value exactly could the federal government and congress add outside of what will already be done?

The only time Congress should get involved on something like this is when there's some fear that the NTSB has not done its job. Otherwise, stay the hell out. *sigh*

To assume that the public will become savvy is asking alot. Price something $.25 less than there competitor and all other concerns are wiped out.

I hope Toyota gets Edseled on this, (or Corvaired, or...) if for no other reason than to knock their arrogant streak off. And Congress should keep their fool mouths shut, but when has that ever happened.?

Good luck. Between damned if they do, damned if they don't, and the fact that voters (their supposed customers) are scared, the politicians have very little choice but to mouth off . . . which they love to do anyway. Remember, "politics" is "people".

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

maybe it was retro-fit with go fast parts ala Fast & Furious. all that downforce from the ironing board wing obviously made the car too fast and too furious.
