Call it whatever you like, but it's real suspicious that the heat fired up HARD on Toyota right after they announced a plant closure in California...Nancy Pelosi's home state. She's had it in for them ever since.

would it be different had it been Ford? does no one remember the "Exploders"? i seem to remember Congress got involved in that fustercluck.

i'll buy into Pelosi going after Toyota for closing a plant in her home state. she may very well have that agenda, but can anyone realistically say they believe it is a government conspiracy to bolster GM and Chrysler sales? i must say i find that a reach.

and what if it is a conspiacy? is this a bad thing?

i'll be convinced when Consumer Reports throws Toyota under the bus. because then we will have proof someone is being impartial. (tongue in cheeek firmly)

Let's see some data on how many people were hurt by rolled over Exploders versus how many were hurt in this Toyota thing. Pretty sure we're talking orders of magnitude in difference (with the Ford thing being MUCH worse) even though Toyota probably has a LOT more cars out there with this potential problem.

I don't even think Congress is smart enough to realize that hurting Toyota might help GM and Chrysler, so no, I wouldn't make that conclusion. I think they're spiteful enough, though, that's for sure.

Honestly I think the biggest thing here is there's some spiteful legislators doing their thing *and* a media frenzy because the media just likes to do that. This one is a big scary thing for a lot of reasons, so they just pile on.

Conspiracy theories suck.

Without ranting about the blatant hypocrisy from various politicians and "commentators", ANY politcian who doesn't complain about a factory closing is going to be zinged by the same hypocrits at the next opportunity.

Do we now have enough influence world wide that the US got Japanese/European Prius drivers to complain about the "what brakes"?

Why did the NHSTA "cover up" the throttle problem for years before the dems got in charge?

Regarding the exploder tires, my take is that a bunch of folks drove old under inflated tires for thousands of miles in hot weather at well over posted speeds with their loved ones in the car. When the loved ones took it tough the choice was blame themselves or blame ford/firestone.

I HATE hypocrits . . . including myself if/when I'm being one

Your Company WENT BELLY UP!!! Why would I reward this by buying one of your products?

How quickly we forget that our kids will be funding these companies for years and years too come.

How can capitalism reward failure?

Blue Oval all the way Jake? 8)

Chevy has actually started building vehicles that can compete on a world stage again. sadly it took them 50 years to get back there but hey, who's counting? if the government is going to back up banks why shouldn't they back up GM & Chrysler.

now if you want to talk conspiracy how about "The Bankers" vs "JFK" ?

Can you explain the logic on that one? Just wondering, I didn't even know Toyota had a plant in KY. What's bad about it?

toyota has been assembling cars in KY for way longer than that, i've been to their facility several times.

If tire under-inflation was to blame, why would Ford respond to the rollover issue by REDUCING the recommended tire pressure in Explorers to 26 psi?

There's complaining and then there's abusing your power to burn them at the stake. *shrug*

My "recollection" was that the original tire pressure was 26 psi to improve ride. However, I have a fainter recollection :? that Keith may be correct.

Anyone recall the actual facts/timing?

The "problem" some pundits/critics said was that 26 gave too little margin for when folks didn't check pressures.

I wonder if Nexteer (formerly Saginaw) which is currently owned by GM/Us makes the Corolla/Lexus ps units. This 2011 Mustang related press release mentions the MANY other car makers that Nexteer supplies some type of steering components to.

Oh crap, here goes ford...

Quote:
DETROIT—-Ford officials issued a massive recall of the entire 2010 Mustang line Tuesday, apologizing for a quality-control oversight that led to the company manufacturing a badass muscle car that was way too awesome for the American public. "We deeply regret this lapse in judgment and accept full responsibility for the mistake," Ford CEO Alan R. Mulally said standing beside a gorgeous, cherry-red vehicle recalled for being "way too smoking." "After numerous road tests, we've found the car to be a mean, mean ride that Americans are simply not cool enough to handle, and it would be irresponsible of us to allow anyone to get behind the wheel of this killer car. It's truly frightening how sweet the Mustang is." According to Mulally, Ford has canceled production on the 2011 Mustang, and will instead release a line of fuel-efficient vehicles in an effort to appeal to boring old Americans.
