merely a technicality my brother, but i never figured you for one of those guys to throw a brother under the bus. remember that E36 that sits in my garage is mighty close to being NASA worthy. :)

it's always the one you least expect isn't it? i hear there's a bus maintenance day coming up, maybe someone will be able to get you out from under it!

spec3 is coming on strong, if i hadn't found my se30 car that was one of my top choices (the other being spec miata). or you could run gts, although i think that's a costlier build with pricier consumables. the other nice thing about nasa (southeast) is they knock $150 off each race if you sign up early which makes them very attractive, i signed up for five or six races. get that e36 ready for 2011!

it's pretty much a GTS car, but apparently you have missed my point Jason. i personally would rather harass 80 cars than try to beat three.

so yes, LeMons is just a more crowded version of a typical DE with an actual trophy. we are the bastard children of our upbringing. no one gives us anything but a mere nod for our existence. we race with idiots that wear rabbit suits in the garages as they profess to know all that is relevant to their enviroment at 11PM after seven hours of on-track competition ..

remember, I'm the guy that said Club Racing appears to be boring from a spectators' point of view.

Just open the door from the house to the garage. Will cost you a few extra bucks in heating costs but it is by far the easiest solution.

the garage door is directly across the hall from the master bedroom door. i can hear it already..."you care more about keeping that %(#%^!@ car warm than your wife!" not the way i want to spend my 10th anniversary. i would have spent it at vir but the svt hpde was canceled due to snow.

sooner or later that has to deal down to, "this is boring". let's face it BMWCCA Club Racing is nothing more than rich guys delaying the inevitable moment of their participation in Vintage Racing.

yes, Jason that is a jaded opinion. and no i don't fully see it that way, but deep down................. there is a ceiling in club racing that just kind of sounds like .........throw more money at it and it might be a quicker car. know what i mean?

i know what you mean, but i'd counter by pointing out that spec series really aren't like that (yeah i've heard about the 30k spec miatas but that's the exception not the rule). that's why i chose spec e30, pretty much all of the cars are in the 8-15k range and you can't really spend more than that without cheating. they're very equally matched, fields are large, operating costs are reasonable (cheaper than many of the cars you see at HPDEs), and they're a blast to drive. search youtube or vimeo for spec e30 or spec miata, tell me it doesn't look like fun. it's certainly not for everyone but it scratches my competitive itch in a way that hpdes don't. lemons is also great fun but requires a team which has its own set of hurdles and doesn't have the "cars are the same so it's all about the driver" aspect of spec racing.

6 to ten cars in your class for your entire career. don't get me wrong Jason, that is a tough nut to overcome. but i liken it to High School. or College if you must, running with the same guys so in your old age one can claim some vindication. nobody wins in Club Racing without a trust fund. :D

Piss Off you damn racer type. God Speed.

the last nasa-se race of 2009 had 24 entrants, and i think nasa-ma fields are almost always in the 20s. but keep trying, eventually you'll convince yourself that it's boring and expensive and that deep down you're not actually insanely jealous. plus we'll see who can stay awake the longest.

ok, actually it can be a little expensive. damn!

Jason,

When I lived in northern Illinois, on the coldest nights I would go out late in the day/early evening and crank the cars in the garage and let them come up to full operating temps before shutting them down. I would also leave one of those little oil radiator type heaters on in the garage. I too often run 100% distilled water and water wetter, so I was/am in the same situation.

I have done that down here in NC on occassion as well and never had any issues. When I lived 9 miles south of Wisconson, the above method always worked despite having weeks of high temps in the teens.

My .02.

-Kevin
