I'm really surprised more of y'all don't have a set of real snow tires on an extra set of rims. I mean, what's another set of tires? I've got a set of Blizzaks that must be 15 years old now but they're still in great shape because I only put them on when there's snow. It makes such a huge difference; basically makes a snowy road like a dirt road in terms of traction. And unlike 4WD, snow tires work under braking too.

Real snow/ice tires even work on Mustang V-8's in PA and NJ with lots of snow (limited of course by available ground clearance :o ). I've put them on one or the other of our Mustangs as needed over the years. Makes a REALLY big difference!!

I'll tell ya, a Subaru on snow tires in weather like this is like cheating. Like bringing a gun to a knife fight. I was doing full-throttle launches from stoplights while everyone else was staring at me like I'm an idiot. Almost *too* much grip, to get any sideways action required a LOT of throttle. Entertaining to say the least :) The car on those tires is unstoppable.

I found a pretty good lot at USA baseball (Cary Brooks park) and had some fun. Still not big enough though.

Spent my youth with a 1972 Mustang Sprint (351 Cleveland) would get side ways in the dry. Sand bags in the trunk, snow tires and a little throttle modulation and I never missed a date! Did have some dumb girl try to come down a hill after she saw me not stop at the bottom until I did a 180 and hit me head on but that's another story.

When I was driving on Friday night when it was still just slush on the road, I was giving the throttle a few stabs at a few places and it would not break loose...no VDC light flashing either. Still has the Dunlop SP01 sports that came on it and based on my experience in the cold rain at the autox in December at zMax plus the few times I've had it in the snow, they really have all season-ish like characteristics. Or maybe I drive like a grandma :).

Based on an experiment this morning with my 01 Mustang on all seasons in the unshoveled portion of my circular driveway/skidpad, crusted snow and wide all seasons don't work. Rather than put the real snow tires on to go "battle" the folks on all season tires tomorrow, it looks like a "work from home day" :D

for the record:

the Town of Cary does not approve of this action.

Ask Kourosh and I how we know...

Thankfully, we were off with just a verbal warning.

I would imagine most cities would call it reckless driving... that being said, I was BARELY able to get my rwd 1500 out of my cul-de-sac and onto the main roads, which were STILL iced over... i did however find a few spots where i could do some rear wheel steering

Maybe tomorrow I will see if the miata is any fun to drive in the ice

I had a lot of fun in the Element, its AWD actually impressed me a bit. I had no problems getting around anywhere this weekend. I'll probably be taking it to work tomorrow (considering that the other two cars are on summer only tires, especially my regular DD, the 3, which is on Dunlop Direzza's). Hand-brake turns in cul-de-sacs are FUN.

Rebecca had no problems in the Subaru yesterday or today. I had no problems getting to Crabtree and back in my Sienna. No problems with a sticking throttle either!!

Driving the Subaru out of the icy neighborhood roads should be a blast tomorrow morning! I can't wait!!!
