My left achilles heel has been bugging me for about 3-4 weeks. Winds up I've injured my left calf muscle and it's simply not getting better. Went to the chiropractor, who by way abused my left heel, at least got me feeling better. Right no no jumping, which takes out 1/4 of the exercises. Hope to finish this by the end of year!!
As another budding athlete, I certainly feel your pain (literally, in my knees and ankles and shins). I'm having a real struggle between doing too much too soon, vs doing things sustainably.
I'm 38 and not overweight (175 lbs, 6'0"), but want to be closer to 165. I want it yesterday. Ironically, if I turn 40 and can run 6 miles in 48 minutes and weigh 165 lbs, I'll be thrilled. To do that, I need to lose 5 lbs per year and knock 1.5 minutes off of my mile time. For the running, I'm starting from about 10 min/mile, with an endurance level of 1 mile...
In less than 4 a month I'm up to 2 miles at 9:30, but I'm hurt and can't sustain that sort of improvement.
The point? We have plenty of time, set realistic goals, and make *lifestyle* changes that enable those goals. Think of this as a journey. You can't start a trip at the destination.
