...don't forget that muscle is denser and weighs more than fat, so weight loss as a metric may not be helpful. Also, you'll burn glycogen stores in your liver before using body fat as an energy reserve, so you'll not look much different for awhile. If you're not cutting back on intake calories, then that will be some headwind as well. So, don't be discouraged by lack of visible results as they take several weeks to months to appear.

Enjoy the increased energy and wellbeing, as that is a sure sign of progress. Don't overdo it, or risk an overuse injury that will put you behind schedule.

Keep it up!

so I'm in day 25 of week 4. This is the cool down week, but I can't tell that from all the freaking sweating I'm doing. As for stats, we'll here's a few....

Day 1:
Weight........230
waist...........39-1/4"
pull ups.......all of 4 ( I like there instructions, you are to do the exercises in good form to failure)
push ups......20 (to failure)

Day 25:
Weight........228
waist...........38-1/2"
pull ups.......7 to start with, but now I can maintain more during the routines. I was failing at 1-2 to start with where now I can do 3-4 good reps before I fail during the course of the routine
push ups......25, but again, I can do more reps during the course of the workout.

I'm frustrated w/ the weight loss of only 2-3 pounds, but the waist line shrinking which is what I'm liking.

more in a few weeks....

Weight loss in the 2-3 lbs per month is a good healthy rate. That's 30 lbs of solid weight loss in a year--weight that has a better chance of staying off since you've altered your activity level, eating habits etc. Based on what you've been sharing it says to me that your weight loss is more from increasing metabolism than about crash dieting, cutting fluid intake etc.

enjoy the extra room in the wiast--that's got to be encouraging!

edit: take periodic measurements of your biceps, thighs and chest to see how much of that weight is shifting to more desirable locations. Big guns and a broad chest will make you feel better if you're weight loss plateaus.

Keep it up Rodney. I saw a nephew who is about 30 a couple of weeks ago after not having seen him in about a year, and I was blown away. He has lost a bit over 50lbs (he's probably 6' and 180 right now) through this program and is in amazing shape now. He did that over the course of less than 12 months. He said he plateaued for a while after losing 10 pounds or so, but he kept with it. He said for a while it felt like nothing was going to change at that point.

Time for an update, but not necessarily a good one. Got sick w/ the flu a few weeks ago that put a halt on my progress. Couple that w/ painting 2 bedrooms and some other house and car work, I've lost about 2 weeks of works out. The good news is I'm finally back into my routine. Damn, that was hard getting back into the saddle. Getting sore all over again is not fun, but I've now picked up at the pace I was at several weeks ago. I'm now down to 223 in weight, but most everything is the same due to my time off.

Time to get serious again.....

ah, the joys of yet another setback on this effort. I'm now about 5 weeks behind in my efforts, but still making headway working out every other day. Can't swing everyday now that spring is here and I have tons of stuff to do on the house and getting ready for Jordan to graduate.

My left achilles heel has been bugging me for about 3-4 weeks. Winds up I've injured my left calf muscle and it's simply not getting better. Went to the chiropractor, who by way abused my left heel, at least got me feeling better. Right no no jumping, which takes out 1/4 of the exercises. Hope to finish this by the end of year!!

Keep up the good work Rodney.
I know it is tough to self motivate.

I've been taking a polymetrics class at work for 4 months now. I haven't lost a lot of weight, but I feel better and a bit thinner. We are fortunate to have a fitness center on site so it makes it easy to participate... peer pressure from co-workers helps a lot too.

"you only get out what you put in to it... finish strong!" --words from my instructor.

As another budding athlete, I certainly feel your pain (literally, in my knees and ankles and shins). I'm having a real struggle between doing too much too soon, vs doing things sustainably.

I'm 38 and not overweight (175 lbs, 6'0"), but want to be closer to 165. I want it yesterday. Ironically, if I turn 40 and can run 6 miles in 48 minutes and weigh 165 lbs, I'll be thrilled. To do that, I need to lose 5 lbs per year and knock 1.5 minutes off of my mile time. For the running, I'm starting from about 10 min/mile, with an endurance level of 1 mile...

In less than 4 a month I'm up to 2 miles at 9:30, but I'm hurt and can't sustain that sort of improvement.

The point? We have plenty of time, set realistic goals, and make *lifestyle* changes that enable those goals. Think of this as a journey. You can't start a trip at the destination.

Man, I'm feeling old at 53! Good luck on the running, but that's one thing I've never been good at and really don't enjoy it. If I can get my bike back from Jordan, maybe I'll start riding that again.

I can't agree more about the goal setting. While I'd like to be ripped w/ .5% body fat, that ain't going to happen. I'd still be happy dropping another 10lbs and being able to run though the DVD's w/ out pausing every 15 min. I plan on running through these DVD's again once I've completed this first round. I think every other day is realistic and I'm still seeing results.

It's interesting, I find that my working out gets me thinking about the other things. I am getting better at passing the candy dish at work without grabbing a handful, because I know how hard I've worked, and I know that a handful of candy is a setback.
