Buick today announced pricing for the all-new 2011 Regal sedan, which will go on sale across the country priced from $26,995 plus a $750 destination charge for the premium CXL model. This price undercuts Buick's own 2010 LaCrosse CXL sedan by more than $3,000.
The Regal is coming on the market initially in CXL trim but additional trim levels, including a cheaper CX and possibly a high-performance Regal GS, will be offered in the 2012 model year.
As for the initial Regal CXL, Buick will be offering as standard a 2.4-liter direct injected engine rated at 182 horsepower. Remaining as an option is a turbocharged and direct injected 2.0-liter mill rated at 220 horsepower, though this unit isn't available until late summer 2010. It will be offered from $29,495.
Both engines have a 6-speed automatic transmission standard with Driver Shift Control (DSC). The 2.4-liter mill returns an estimated fuel economy of 30 mpg on the highway, while the turbocharged unit is slightly lower at 29 mpg.
The Regal CXL gets 18-inch wheels as standard but 19-inch wheels are available on turbocharged models equipped with Buick's Interactive Drive Control.
Other standard features include electronic stability control, dual-stage front air bags, side-curtain air bags and pedal-release (rear-seat thorax air bags are optional), as well as a 12-way power, leather and heated driver seat, a leather and heated passenger front seat, Bluetooth capability, XM Satellite Radio and OnStar. Optional goodies include a navigation system and a Harmon Kardon sound system with a 10 GB hard drive.
Production of the Regal sedan is taking place in Russelsheim, Germany, with the first cars due to arrive in showrooms in the second quarter of the year. North American production will begin at the Oshawa plant in Canada in the first quarter of next year.
